How many poker players are there?
Same answer.

The big styles would be TAG, and LAG tight agressive and loose agressive. Most pros will know both of these styles.

Gus Hansen would be the LAG of note these days. Maybe Chris Ferguson would be a fair example of TAG. WHat all of the pros can do, and have to be able to do, is to play both, and all spots in between.

well. they are just averages of characteristics of players including but not limited to:

tight
loose
weak
passive
aggressive
maniac
rock
nit
gambler

each can be associated with how a person plays a specific hand such as a draw/pp/monster/bluff/etc

what kind of player do you consider a rock? Is there any good players that play any two cards (ATC)?

Rock would generally be considered the tightest. Only plays the very best hands, and then probably on the conservative side.

You can win tournaments playing any way you want (in the right situation). The more different styles you are capable of playing, the better chance you'll have at winning a tournament.

You can get to the final table playing the rock, but would have to loosen up there.

I know, I've done it. 180 player sng, I won 3 hands and only voluntarily entered the pot 12 or 13 times, and got to the final table. That was in the 130 hand range at that point.

I have not duplicated that tightness though.

Yes, it is possible the win by playing very tight* (rock), but I believe it to rely too much on luck and winning big pots: if you wait for premium hands and they get cracked (as they all do sometimes), you end up losing a lot. I fevor more of a "play the players" attitude nowadays.

*I once spent 2 hours folding EVERYTHING in a home game (10 handed) that was more like a bingo than a poker game. Blinds increased when people busted out and since everyone was exhanging chips, I still had a medium-low stack when I woke up and started to tear (bluff) everyone apart with premium holdings such as 3-4 and 7-10. I won that game and it went to 6 handed to heads up in 45 minutes after I woke up (with chip lead...).

I usually play the rock because everyone at my table limps in or raises too much compared to me just sitting there watching them play.
