How many big blinds should your poker playing bankroll be? I've been playing at globalpoker.com and amassed a $600K bankroll from a seed bank of $5K only to lose the entire lot within 12 hours at $1K-$2k NLH. Obviously I suffered some pretty horrible bad beats . Based upon that abysmal performance, I've reach the conclusion that one should need at least 1000 big blinds to manage effectively against the hideous beast known as variance. Any thoughts?

Play chips that are bought with cash.

I think you probably made a lot of bad calls, then again you played with play chips and it kind of changes how to play poker because it doesnt affect you like real money. You need like 40 buy ins to counter variance though and lose as minimum as possible when you run bad

When i play poker (real money) i want minimum 50 buyins.
When i reach 60 buyins of next level i move up.
When i go below 50 buyins i move down.

For tournements i im only using 1/100 of my BR
If i want to play more expensive tournements ill try
get there by satelite.

Bankroll sizing is a personal choice - in the end its good to have
some sort of management of your money, so you can play free
and without fear of going bust :D

If you entered a session thats goin bad, its better to quit for the day
than trying win your money back.
Also giving poker a 2-3 day break is often helpfull.

If that was real money, buy a house.

Is the buyin amount a personal choice? Mine is usually 100 big blinds. The game was far too huge for my bankroll. Yea in a live money game, I tend to walk away if I'm running bad to avoid steaming or chasing. Learned that technique from blackjack.

Ouch that’s a heavy loss why don’t you just make the transition to micro limits rather than buying play money chips
