Poker is also about situations.

We always hear about poker being about a game of position. Online and live pro's emphasize it and how it helps you to make good decisions in the long-run. What we don't hear as much but should not be underestimated is poker is a game of situations. Aside from your position relative to your opponents, it's equally as important, if not more so to be in a position where you are applying pressure to your opponent and taking advantage of spots where you "usually" have the best hand.

I say usually in quotes because sometimes you're on the wrong end of a situation, like set over set. I've been on the wrong end of it many times, in cash games, Sit & Go's and MTT's, but it should not ever deter you from playing to win. Here is one such spot where persistence paid off very handsomely for me.

Sometimes those monsters under the bed aren't what we think they are.

Keep on grinding and sometimes you're going to go broke being in the right situation but most of the time, you'll come out ahead.

I used to play in a live game 6 days a week.

Nice to get a seat between the Romanian debt collector, and a bouncer with a lazy eye, who has a sharp temper. Physically intimidating, and not a place to make 'clever' comments or moves. Just STFU and play quietly .... and try and leave in one piece with the money.

It's true, not only do you have to get a great hand but you have to be in the situation where someone also has a hand (good but inferior ) and is going to give you a lot of their chips. Sometimes you don't get cards, sometimes you get cards but no one wants to play. That sucks too. Nothing worse than AA in the BB and everyone folds to you,

Totally agree that a play from one spot can be profitable but losing in another and trying to refine the accuracy of your play in these spots can remove some variance to the roll. And sometimes it's just your time to go.

Position and bet size both are part of the situations so you are not contradicting the popular opinion, merely complimenting it.

Totally agree - though if I got THAT seat, I'd probably look for a seat change. I want to enjoy my live poker experience. ;)
