I have been playing quite a lot of PLO8 and recently played a sit and go on pokerstars. I did well and finished second, due to villain hitting a flush against my flopped trips but he also had some low draws.

Now I am wondering if anyone has played a lot of PLO8 to give me some insight into heads up play, as this seems like the aspect of the game that I must improve on to win big money constantly.

well its not that easy as you make it sound, my play depends on so many things, I can't just tell you to play one way, chip stacks, how aggressive your opponent has been/is at the moment, pay out difference between 2nd and 1st, so if the pay out difference is like 400$ between 1st and 2nd your opponent is less likely to take chances with junk hands, but if its like 50$, he/she would probably be willing to take more chances, so you have to consider all of that into play. You can ask me more specific questions if you want but I can't answer this one.

Just thinking back to the hand that I lost, is it worth it to push my set against a player with very likely better low draws and a less likely high draw?

What kind of strength would you need on the high side to make it worthwhile to let the other player chase one low card?

Ok I can answer this question, so from what I'm reading you had only a set with no low draw, ok lets say there are 100k chips in play for example, if you have 90k vs 10k, definitely try to get him all in, if he has more than 20k, I would most likely play this fairly passive, since we don't want to double him up where he is almost even with us, I rather be on a flush and low draw vs having a set to be honest, We can wait for a hand where we have plenty of draws where we can push push push, I personally play, very aggresive, and I just push when I have a lot of draws, although if lets say there were two high cards, and only one card and you had trips then definitely bet at it, if he has something he will pay you off, if not then its not worth letting him see a turn. Does this kind of make sense? if not just let me know, sorry but omaha h/l is so hard to explain, some people think this game is easy, I don't think it is, so many factors and stuff but I do love it.

maybe I'm over simplifying it a bit....but I play omaha just about the same as hold em with just a little adjustment in how I value the strength of a given hand...

ex: if i flop a straight w/o flush draw...I'm not so happy if theres two to a suit on board ......
or if I flop a set (1 in hand, 2 on board)... I'm usually not too anxious to raise, re-raise.....
and my pocket A,A,X,X doesn't look so good if any three cards that can connect for a straight flop

of course if it's hi-lo then you may have two different hands to look at (at least thats what you hope for)

as far as Heads Up Hi-Lo.... if I have a even a halfway decent low draw, unless it's a tiny pot, it's hard not to stay in the hand ....
if I have a set or 2 pr w/o good straight or flush draws to go with it and no low draw,.......and I think other guy made low .... I tread lightly .......too many times I've seen a set get scooped by the lo hand that back doors a straight or flush

and just like in hold em....in HU less premium hands are gonna play
