As a longtime holdem player I can remember the 'good ol days' of the juiciest cash games ever at party poker when internet poker was in it's infancy. Nowadays however ppl have become in general very proficient at playing holdem. Thus I started looking to other forms of poker to find games that could be more profitable. PLO seems to fit that bill rather well. The easiest of complex games to learn, it offers many more areas of weakness to be exploited by strong players. If you have the time I would highly recommend spending some time becoming a PLO player as it's benefits greatly outway the drawbacks. If u are an accomplished holdem player, take a step up- the gold awaits u my friend.

I'm learning this game and I've been dabbling in 10PLO. It seems like everyone at this level is clueless. I always have to question the quality of my hands because I'm always being told that omaha is a game of the nuts. How important is HUD in this game?

depends on how many tables you play and how closely you pay attention to things

I have a hud, I don't always use it (HeM omaha)

I actually think at 2-3 tables or so I play better without a hud... mainly because I get a bit lazy with it and don't pay as close attention as I should to things.

Rethink that when you are moving up because from what I heard, PLO past the 200 level is much softer on stars.

at a high enough level + a high enough VIP stars level (ie supernova) stars is better.

really until you get there tilt + rakeback is better (much better than say $50 PLO + Goldstar/Platinum Star)

This game is so much crazier than NLHE. These hold'em players come over and they go batshit insane when they see aces.

Just curious why is the rake is worse on PLO compare to hold'em, sorry im a newbie to online poker, played live for over 7 years but just starting to dabble online. Can anyone tell me why online play is more aggressive and if you could recommend one article on here on strategy for cash games, throw a player a bone.lol. love the forums, hopefully see you guys at the tables.

I'm playing PLO some lately just because I'm kinda bored with hold'em and PLO is not boring. That said, the variance can be brutal, but if you don't tilt too easily and have a sufficient bankroll for it, it can be profitable. I think you need a bigger BR for PLO.

Some days I get creamed. Some days it goes well. Gotta be able to deal with the variance mentally. But fun, too. Don't play PLO if you can't laugh at a horrible beat. You will see lots of them.

Rake is based on the amount of money in the pot, so if you're playing at a table where the avg pot size is bigger, the rake is bigger. In general, PLO pots tend to be bigger than NLHE pots (all-ins are more common in PLO than in NLHE), hence more rake.

This isn't an online vs. live thing fwiw - the game naturally lends itself to bigger pots (hence the higher variance).

One article to recommend? imo, https://www.cardschat.com/f49/10k-post-micro-stakes-full-ring-112836/ - look through the golden archives subforum for more.

+1

Most NLHE brm recommendations start at 20bi's for microstakes - most PLO brm recommendations I've seen start at 50bi's for any limit (30bi's at the low end).

Thats why I like PLO, I love being able to get my money in on a lot of occasions. Call me a gambler but I just like that variance.

all right, so if the board is QQ288 and you hold one 8 that's not a full house, right?
