Hey,

Im pretty new to poker...basically started about a month ago before a trip to vegas by reading a book...did alright there but now Ive got the poker bug I guess and have started to play online. Well, after a few days on party poker Im down quite a bit. I dont really know what to do now. I play pretty conservatively and pretty much wait for good hands before betting...when I do I try to get players out etc...but im getting called and then Im losing on the turns and rivers. I think Ive gotten over my problem of falling in love with some hands and overbetting (like JJ or QQ). Ive been playing in the 25 buck NL rooms at party poker...should I wait out my bad luck? Im pretty conservative though so should I perhaps move into rooms with more money in them...or should I switch sites? I always hear that playing the game right will earn you money on the internet...how do you guys do it? Thanks alot...Matt

I used to CLEAN up on Party 25 and 50NL tables but lately I have been getting absolutley hammered! Since you are new might consider a site with lower stakes such as pokerstars or royal vegas. Party is in a class all to itself when it comes to having BAD players at what for online are middle limits. Usually the simplest strategy works best for Party wait for the nuts don't try to push most players out cause they simply will not fold! Good Luck and welcome to the forum!

Try out CrazyPoker or Royal Vegas to get $15/$10 for free by signing up. If you like it there better, you might wanna consider ditching Party Poker. Either way, I would go to slightly lower limits to get used to online play and then move back up.

(If you want to try out CrazyPoker, check out my thread on the free $40 signup bonus which I found in a magazine)

I think you would like noble poker and paradise poker much better. They offer better nolimit tournaments. I would also recommend you prolly come down on the buy in prices until you get back on a roll. Good luck and let me know how you like noble and paradise if you try them out.

poker stars is also a good site with alot of lower level tables. Also if you find yourself with very good hands off the flop try slow playing them til the end. Don't always pay with big pots but if you have a full boat and they hooked a flush and you were checking the whole way you can start looking at some bigger pots.

One thing you should really do is reread a lot of the poker strategy posts here. They contain a wealth if info to help improve your game so it won't matter where you play.

pacific poker is a very good place to play for low level play . Ultimatebet.com is also a good place to play lot of free rolls . Absolute.com poker very good place for free rolls pokerhost.com pokerChamps.com .I play at all of these in there free rolls . you can play free rolls all day . I play real money at pacific poker .
they gave me free 10.00$ last month just for a bonus .and that was not the first time . I have been playing there for 3 years or more.
First thing play internet poker is not like playing live poker at all .about 75% of the people you are playing are from other parts of the world other then the good old USA.
and they have there own way of play poker. and they will hang with you tell the river trying to make a hand .
then there the weekend warriors and the one who witch to much TV and think the games is about going all in.
there is a lot to learn about playing poker on the internet .
If i where you I would play allot of free rolls at a bunch of deferent poker rooms for few months before putting in a lot of cash .

Hi,
As you've only been playing 1 month,i would suggest lowering your limit as poker can take a lifetime to learn. I've been playing 12 months and still learning everyday about what to do in certain situations..playing tight even when new to the game isnt always going to work...i suggest starting at lower limits and developing your own strategy...paradise is a good place to start...not too many insane callers who cant let a hand go.
Good luck and remember to be patient...

Instead of offering any advice or suggestions, you make a one word post to increase the post counter...

No matter what limits you play you're going to run into the calling stations and river chasers. Being patient and playing premium hands aggressively is probably the best strategy. I would also look at some of the other sites folks have mentioned. I play regularly at Noble, UltimateBet, Royal Vegas, Superior, and FullTilt. When the cards are cold or the crazies out I swith sites for a change of pace...
