When a hand goes postflop there are 4 scenarios:

1. we both hit

2. we hit / they miss

3. we miss / they hit

4 we both miss

I want to to discuss about how we should play when both players perceived ranges have missed , what does this mean?

For example , we are dealt AQo , stack sizes are 100bb , an unknown villain raises from MP and we call him from the button , we believe that he raise around 11-15% of his hands which means he has a lot of unpaired cards in his range , everyone else fold and the flop comes: 8-2-4 rainbow , now this is a clear situation where both player's perceived range have missed.

We assume that our hand is playable and we are probably ahead of his range otf but since he is unknown , his patterns might be unpredictable , for example if we float him he may keep on barreling or if we raise his cbet he may 4-bet us , despite we are ahead we are in a tough situation.

Whats the best way to proceed here? in theory whats the perfect way to play out the hand?

Same scenario arises when we flat 3-bets with good broadway cards , we simply cant play fit or fold but we cant be reckless either , sometimes we may have to give up especially when our range appears to be on a disadvantage but there are flops we have to fight for , no matter how hard i think this through , i cant think of a perfect way to play these situations without reads , can anyone elaborate?

I can't find a good way to do this without reads either. Not to mention we are never quite positive they missed. Overpairs are tricky things.

There's a thousand ways this could go. You can bet, and he could fold, float, bluff and reraise you, or reraise or call with an overpair, say 10 10 or jj. Without a read, you don't know which is which.

The only way I figure it is to try betting the guy to figure out what he would do in the situation. I find most often to be fairly honest and fold when they have nothing or float.... some aren't though.

I know people don't like the term betting for information, but that's what we have to do here. the trick is you are betting for information on the player, not the hand.

So I guess I don't really know what to do either before that.

What stakes do you play? 10nl and below there is no real need to think this deep. You will just level yourself.

The best I can say is consider weather your opponent makes more calling mistakes, folding mistakes or betting mistakes, and let that be your guide.

Typically in this situation if I act first or my opponent checks, I'll either take a stab at the pot by betting big and hoping he'll fold, or I'll check if I think I have a good draw & a shot at the turn giving me the best hand.
