Hi all! :)

This is my first post here, but have been playing poker for around 6 years now. Here is my graph for this year so far: It's a mix of $10nl, $20nl, $30nl and a little $50nl:

Graph1

I have only just started taking my game 'seriously' - consciously looking to improve both on and off of the tables.

I'm currently playing $20/$30nl and my goals this month were:

Play 10,000 $20/$30nl hands
Play 5,000 $50nl hands

My goal by the end of the year is to be playing regularly at the $50nl tables :)

I am going to use this as a kind of commentary on how my poker is going, hopefully posting hands for people to talk about - and as a way of showing my thought processes.

What I am mainly looking for is people who are doing the same kind of thing as me (e.g stakes, volume, goals) so we can help each other improve - I'd love to be part of some kind of study group or sweat session - I've never done any of these before and think it would really help my game :)

So yeah... subscribe, introduce yourself, get in touch and lets play some poker!

Ted

In to help where I can and learn quite a bit.

Nice graph. Still trying to get to your stakes, but volume is similar and I think all of our goals would be the same.

Scourrge is on your level and super smart. duggs knows stuff that nobody else on the planet does.

I'm not at their level, but every time they speak, I learn, and I would expect them to show up eventually since you're playing up to 50nl and crushing.

Again, congratulations on your success to this point.

Hi guys!

My play is heavily weighted towards $20 & $30nl but I have some $50nl hands that I'm currently looking through as this is where I definately feel the least comfortable and make the most mistakes. FYI, I am rolled for $50nl so I don't think my mistakes related to that.

So I'd like to discuss this hand:

888 Poker - $0.50 NL - Holdem - 7 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (SB): 130.32 BB
BB: 188.32 BB (VPIP: 34.48, PFR: 20.69, 3Bet Preflop: 26.67, hands: 29)
UTG: 178.88 BB (VPIP: 12.21, PFR: 9.16, 3Bet Preflop: 2.44, Hands: 131)
UTG+1: 75 BB (VPIP: 28.57, PFR: 19.05, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 21)
MP: 110 BB (VPIP: 24.00, PFR: 16.00, 3Bet Preflop: 7.69, Hands: 25)
CO: 113 BB (VPIP: 16.22, PFR: 8.65, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 185)
BTN: 43.14 BB (VPIP: 66.67, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 3)

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has T T

fold, fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to 3 BB, Hero raises to 9 BB, fold, BTN calls 6 BB

Flop: (19 BB, 2 players) A 6 4
Hero bets 9.66 BB, BTN calls 9.66 BB

Turn: (38.32 BB, 2 players) 3
Hero checks, BTN bets 24.48 BB

So here are my thoughts (now, not at the time).

Pre: He's got less than a 1/2 stack. He's an unknown. My first thoughts were lets 3b3t here and be happy getting it in. Then I had a think about what hands he might get in pre (with no info about him) 1010+ AK, maybe AQ - I'm not in good shape against this range. It's a little different if we know he's getting in weaker pairs and weaker Aces and Kings
.

Would anyone call here?

So we 3b3t and he calls. I prefer 3b3tting to calling - Bit confused as to what is best here, but we head to the flop.

I don't think he calls with many better hands - something like 22-99, AQ, AJ, KQ, 89-QJs (my ranges are not my strong point as of writing!)

Flop: The sizing sucks! In general I prefer cbetting in 3bet pots but this cbet should be bigger and I'm obviously happy to take the pot. He calls and I can be crushed by AQ, AJ, weaker Aces. But I think he holds on to flushdraws and mid pairs too (especially with my small cbet).

Turn: Given the pot size I've created, I don't think I hate cbetting turn and getting it in. But I think the check is just asking to get shoved on (which I think he would do with all of his possible holdings on the flop).

So yeah, in general, I 'm quite confused about this hand. So help! lol Cheers guys!

Ted

i shove the turn there. He's a fish so is capable of calling with worse, it removes bluff potential that would almost always win the pot (when we check, we are mostly checking to fold). Against a reg its a c/f for me but not against a half stack.

Thanks guys! Yes I think as played the turn shove looks best. Its these spots where im unsure whether im betting for value/bluffing etc. that I struggle.

Seems a fishy table so I don't mind opening pre-flop but imo it's quite close.

Flop is a bet/fold. He's a tight/nitty player, so draws are less likely in his raising range 5 handed. You're in bad shape against his raising range anyway so fold is good.

Yeah, KJ isn't normally in my UTG+1 opening range but we're 7 handed with no-one aggressive behind us and a guy to our immediate left who's played pretty tight (stats are a little squewed due to sample) but no surprises from him so far, a TAGfishy guy in the CO and a bit of a nit on the BUT.

And yeah, going on what we know about the BUT, it looks like a fold -I do find these spots quite frustrating especially when we have a blocker to the two pair J10 combinations he can have..

BB: 180.8 BB (VPIP: 20.99, PFR: 9.75, 3Bet Preflop: 2.52, Hands: 1,026)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has K K

fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 2.5 BB, SB raises to 8.5 BB, fold, Hero calls 6 BB

Flop: (18 BB, 2 players) 4 9 2
SB bets 9 BB, Hero calls 9 BB

Turn: (36 BB, 2 players) T
SB checks, Hero checks

River: (36 BB, 2 players) 8
SB checks, Hero bets 18 BB, SB calls 18 BB

[spoil]Hero shows K K (One Pair, Kings) (Pre 17%, Flop 8%, Turn 5%)
SB shows A A (One Pair, Aces) (Pre 83%, Flop 92%, Turn 95%)
SB wins 68.4 BB
[/spoil]

Pre: I chose to just flat call here. His 3b3t is pretty tight and I feel like I fold out all of the hands I beat with a 4b4t here e.g. AK, AQ. Maybe he'd flat a 4b4t with QQ and AA/5b5t AA. So I like the call pre.

Flop: I think he cbets his entire range here. Once again, I feel like I fold out all of the hands I beat here if I raise (barring QQ).

Turn: His line looks like AK/AQ here when he checks. Maybe a passive QQ - who might check/call. I don't feel like I can get value from any hands here (However, I think I should have bet as I have a value hand).

Riv: I bet for value, not quite sure what I'm trying to get value from as his line looks like he totally whiffed everything.

I was surprised with what he turned up with. I think my main mistake was the turn.

Cheers,
Ted

Strange hand. Flatting pre is fine. I would bet the turn when he slows down and then the river.

Also try not to post results as it skews advice.

I'm personally 4 betting pre however that's because I'm a lag and I often 4 bet wider than KK. So preflop is fine. I'm not sure I would barrel river. I think the only value you will get is on the turn. I only see AA and 2 pair + calling a turn barrel and also calling a river barrel.
