Hey All,

Pretty new to the game so I've started playing low stakes cash in a local place near me (0.50p - 0.50p blinds) and am using the low stakes as a chance to improve my game.

How would you advise playing against a loose calling station? I played last night and there was one guy who didn't not play a single hand, would call down any pair, sometimes even Ace High regardless of what you did pre flop, flop turn etc.

The strategy I opted was to tighten up and bet any top pair or better, but never bluff him as he was calling everything. Unforunately for me I went card dead for most of the night.. and the rest of the table all wanted to be in a pot with this guy since he was paying off everyone.. so any raise I made pre flop (fish was calling obviously) would get about 4 callers. This meant I didn't really catch a hand to make some money off this guy. So I am questioning the strategy I took.

Interested in what others think.

Thanks

Sounds like you used the right strategy. You still want to raise with good hands and hope to isolate the fish.

Sounds like you played fine but ran bad. It happens.

This is a fairly rare fish, but I call them "ATMs". Cause ultimately they're just handing out money.

The problem is as you've said, they're calling any pre flop raise, and you end up with a lot of multi way pots. Playing multi way is always more challenging than HU.

My strategy in this scenario is to rely more on position than cards. With later positions I'm raising anything that plays well HU, AND, anything that plays well multi-way.

OOP I'm only raising absolutely premiums.

So the biggest problem on the table isn't going to be how that kind of player is playing, it's whether or not they're on your left or your right.

The best way to bit him - very tight play. One more step - you can change the table, find the best place to win cash. You shoulde not to play and tolerate this guy. It is his problem. Sooner or later, he was beating by patient player.

Forget the idea play tight in a loose game and loose in a tight game.this is elementary and you need to have a much deeper thought process and think about being more tactical. In a loose game tighten up on your bluffs and semi bluffs but loosen up on your hand requirements you bluff less but bet for value more. In a tight game you can bluff and semi bluff more but when you face resistance you must be at the top of your balanced range in order to continue, playing like this will make others play back at you into your made hands in tight games not giving you credit 👍
