I was looking for some advice on playing A-rag. By rag I mean something less than 10. Consider getting As 9d in middle position. Do you play the hand or muck it? If you play and hit your Ace you have a chance of being dominated. So how would you deal with it?

Also what if they were suited? I believe that suited junk is still junk so I would not tend to get attached to it. Would a suited A-Rag be played different?

Pretty much depending on position and the way the tables playing - but muck it.

You said yourself 'If you play and hit your Ace you have a chance of being dominated' so if you ask this before you even get the hand you must know its not a good thing to be doing.

Of course there are times and places when mixing it up you may play with it, but as a general rule - muck it :)

I agree with Ian...There are times when you will get lucky with your ace and pick up something on the flop, but usually you will just get outdrawn with a kicker. Again, depending on the particular circumstances you're in, it may be appropriate to play or it may not. By 9 times out of 10, mucking is probably the best option.

actually, it depends. I've found that in cash games you should generally muck Ace-rag but in tournaments i read somewhere that when you have a low chip-stack.. it's +ev to push all-in.

I generally only play them in late position, or mid-late if suited. That way I can get out cheap if someone else hits. With 5 or less remaining at the table, I'll play them. May even raise in late position.

Wow, you guys are losing a ton of chips by not playing that weak ace.

Its one of my favorite hands in cash games (I don't play tourneys).

A9 is HUGE. Massive. You have an Ace. AND a 9!!!!

Just don't overplay it.

Pay off the guys who outkick you. Not all your chips, but......

That payoff is much more rare than you think.

But really you are playing for the 9-7-2 rainbow flop there.

And if the ace comes? Play it STRONG.

I'll play A rag if it's cheap or i get it on my blinds. You usually see the donks play those types of hands & usually either win really big or lose really big so it's not worth it to me on a coin flip.
