Villain raises 3BB in EP.

He gets called by the next player and me in small blind.

Flop comes 6d 3c 10c.

I make a 3/4 pot raise and which is reraised twice the amount by Villain causing the next guy to fold and I simply call.

Turn comes a queen of spades. I make a smallish bet this time- maybe less than half the pot and villain makes the same re-raise as last time to which I then fold.

I called the initial raise hoping to flop a set but then after the flop I put him on cards like AK, AQ, AJ etc...

The first line to use, until you know better - Flop comes: 6d 3c 10c, you check / call, turn you check/call - river you check / fold

JJ is a very strong hand preflop, worthy of a hefty re-raise. Id re-raise to around 12 big blinds.

As played, post flop you should in general allow aggressor to keep the betting lead, thus I would check/call.

I dont mind your lead, and I would call their flop raise, but I would check and call the turn (or fold if they bet large enough!).

Hey, Champ.
JJ is tough to play, especially from your position in this hand. I agree with Protential that you should let the Villain take the lead on the flop and turn.

Yeah I never really understood why the first bettor should lead (as you can see I'm still a newbie).

Isn't it somewhat likely he would have KQ, AQ, QJ, Q10 QJ?

I probably would have bet my stack by the river.

I would raise more on the pre-flop because the only hands that would continue on the flop would be the high pair,

It doesn´t matter what cards are gonna be on the flop ,but with a pair of jack´s I`m used to be attempeted to go all in pre- flop.

You should of re-raised pre flop here is why. Your hand is a 70% 30% favorite to any overcard hand even Q2o junk. Now with two players in the pot the likelihood of them holding two overs one each is high which makes your hand a coin flip 51% to 49% favorite pre flop K2o and Q2o for example. If your opponents hold 3 overcards then you are a 40% 60% dog A2o and KQo for example. You always want to knockout players with JJ because odds of over hitting the flop is like 43%. This is why jacks are tricky to play. They are not considered a big pair, but still a strong hand. A statistician told me to consider them pocket 11's.

The raise would also told you to raise all in or fold.If you got raised all in you likely are beat or at best flipping against AKs,AKo,AQs,AQ,KQ.Instead of not knowing where you are at during the entire hand find out preflop.

I think that jacks are slightly underrated, and that you should treat them as marginally worse than QQ.

You called the initial raise hoping to flop a set but then after the flop you put him on cards like AK, AQ, AJ etc. What if he had set of 3,6 or 10 with JJ is hard to keep betting if you want to keep chip stack is better to fold you'll get him next time.
