The most I was up was $54.00. The table was pretty loose and players were losing lots and having to re-buy into the game. When I cashed out I was one dollar ahead.

The dealer said that was way better than losing, and another player said she wished she won a dollar instead of losing $100.00

From this description, how would you rate my play, if you can at all. This is about my fifth time playing for money, usually I play in tournaments.

Overall I am ahead this last month:

Tourney's $390

Cash: $43.00

honestly no one can really judge your play unless we have some sessions to review.

The rake is so high in live 3-6 limit games that breaking even overall isn't actually too bad.

It also takes thousands of hands (hundreds of hours live) to determine what your actual winrate might be, luck is a huge factor in the short term.

"Don't be results oriented."

Some really smart guy said that. Possibly another really smart guy. Possibly a few smart gals too.

If I play for 3 hours, get my money in good 5 times, and villain hit's his card on the river when he's a 9.5:1 dog, even if I lose $300, I consider it a good session. I played well, my opponents played poorly. But there's a lot more luck in the short term, which is why he walked away up $100 and I walked away down $43 that night (which is incredibly good based on how well I ran...)

I have no problem stacking off with AA preflop, or on a board I think my opponent missed, when they prove me right and suck out, that's fine. They're going to lose a lot more often than win.

It's all about making the right decision at the right time.

Also, I prefer not to play limit.

Are you in this to make money or have a good time playing poker?

Yeah it can be frustrating playing a cash game for 3+ hours and only making a small profit but it's better than loosing.

Plus I like what arahel_jazz says: Are you in this to make money or have a good time playing poker? Answer is both.

Not a good session

You were at a loose table, lots of money to be won, and you won $1 ??
I was not there but I can guess what happened as I have seen it all too
often. You played down to you opponent's level !!
Expecting to outplay them post flop, trap, etc. In limit that does not happen very often. Calling stations call, fools raise with A rag, etc. Seems
like you missed a golden opportunity.
Review your play honestly and I think you will be heading back to that game very soon. As for playing poker for fun and profit, why not do both ?

I can believe it as I play the baby tables live $1/$2 limit tables and hitting good hands on the flop are almost a curse as you gotta stay in the hand but everybody else does too. I dont know in other states (But after reading the golden archieves of poker room etuiquette, it sounds like it would be the same) but in Florida, these old folks just come to blow all their moeny before they die and they play hands that youd think nobody would touch and take you all the way to river if they hit a piece of it on the flop and even if they dont. But usually at the 10 person table, every hand will have 6 people in until the end unless it very obvious that only one hand is going to win the pot. But there have been so many times that at the flop Id be looking at a nice profit and by the river, I pretty much know Im beat, but I have also learned the hard way many times that if I dont pay to see it that there are times I have folded hands that I would of won big pots becasue I figured I was beat. But it seems in games like this, chasing is a bigger profit maker than being set pretty good post flop only to have the turn and river erase all that. and really when 6 people ride the hand all the way down I guess your odds just keep getting less and less with each card. BUT it is fun playing live just very expensive
