Hey folks,

Have something I want to discuss here with everyone and get some insight. I have been crushing live play but only being able to play twice a week because of the games offered where I live. I am up about 2,700 last 9 weeks playing twice a week at 1-2NL. I had my first losing cash game session Monday though.

I used to be a very good internet player when I could play on FullTilt and pokerstars at the limits of 1-2NL and some of the S&G's and other tournaments from $5-30 Buy In.

Now I have been playing on Carbon and Bovada, neither of which I am in love with but I don't have much of a choice. I have been playing much smaller stakes since I am still weary of these sights and the situation with online poker.

Now I have focused more on smaller cash games like .10/.25 or .25/.50 and my tournament range has stayed about the same but I play less of them.

Now to the meat of my discussion...I am a player who plays mostly on Sklanksy's theories and practices although I adapt to the game type.
I keep running into players making plays that are incorrect in these lower stakes games that I haven't noticed before or at least not to the extent I see them now.

How much do the stakes influence the type of players you get?
How much does each type of play (live v online) influence the type of players you get?

I personally feel like you get a lot more fish online since it is so much easier to be a donkey from the comfort and secrecy of your own home. I rarely run into players in my cash games that make as many incorrect plays as these online players. Is this the common theme you notice as well?

At what stakes online is it safe to assume players play more closely to the theories and practice Sklanksy uses? Or is the online poker community more of a feel approach opposed to the mathematical approach put fourth by many live players.

There are many many more "donkeys" in live games than online, especially if you play in the U.S., it's not close.

I don't know what live game you are playing...

I play $1/$2 primarily. These live "players" are some of the worst players on the face of the earth. Micro stakes players make less mistakes.

Incorrect calls, calling flops to go runner-runner, and many other horrible plays are standard on ANY live table ($1/$2) I have ever played on.

As for online play, you can get a ton of practice by logging in. Always study your theory, and continue to learn more.

I am very surprised that you say live players make fewer mistakes, and make less incorrect plays. Perhaps you have not been playing live all that long. Perhaps you have ran into a bunch of scared money recently.... I definitely think live players in general are some of the worst out there ($1/$2 anyways).

Just my $0.02

I should specify where I live the two games I play in are largely with same players and all of them are good players. I don't have the luxury of fish unless I travel an hour each way to play. Therefore, I run into more fish online.

Oh ok .

Travel an hour, and play the fish. More profitable.
