I just picked this book up at Borders today. If anyone here has read this one feel free to leave a comment. So far I realize that I see way more flops than I should. (If there's no ace fold, unless ur in bb)

Is that the one with all the statistics in it? It's a decent supplement, but not the best book to read first about the game. I'd recommend Cloutier's book on Championship Omaha and Super System series first.

I find that the best poker strategy is on the web, you can gather multiple views and use the ones that best fit your playing style. Omaha 8 is a game that I think people play very poorly in both cash games and tournaments, so its not a surprise that you play more starting hands then you should, most players do anyway (and not just in Omaha 8, lol). I agree with skoldpadda though, when in doubt use Super System.

I have read two of his books and find the information very helpful. The stats in his book are based on $10-20 limits, and may be a little confusing when viewing negative hands as they indicate a small negative ($1-$2) and the reason is these hands are not played except in the blind and only win when there are no callers. This is mentioned, but easily overlooked. If you master the information in his book, I think you will be repaid your investment in your first live action game. It is very good as a reference to compare one hand against another, and you can see the difference in hand value when a particular hand is suited or double-suited. You made a good investment.
Good luck

I am reading the Low-Limit book now. Lots of data. Does anyone know if the stats are available as spreadsheet or csv format? Too much for me to type in by hand. tx, john

Just bought me a copy of it last week and just getting started reading.

Maybe after a few of us read some chapters, we can start a O 8/B discussion?

Well this is interesting. This book cost more than double his first one, and a whopping 534 pages, should be seriously comprehensive!! Publish date is 6/12. After the release, I hope he let's us see the table of contents, intro, and random pages. Some authors do it, some don't. I also hope about 1/3 of the book is dedicated to O8 (both limit & PL), as is his first book. So, if I don't see a table of contents, I'm gonna wait for reviews. I've said it here before, his first book is 322 pgs (a lot of it being quizzes), is really beginning - intermediate, especially when I got a taste of more advanced concepts.

What I'd really be interested to know is where he plays, how often, his ROI, that kinda thing. Also wondered why he never attends the wsop. I think he must do strictly cash games, as his book never addresses tournament play. I have disagreed on a few of his plays. He often does not follow up on what happens when a hand doesn't play out as he anticipates.

To the OP, some reviews to get you started....

I always pay closer attention to ones that give it a low rating. In this case, that guy may have missed the gist of all those charts. It's not for memorization. You must understand how a hand's odds change in relation to connector, suitedness, etc. He had some good point too, as did others. Might look into the book, as this is also my game at low-stakes. Let us know what you think after further review.
