Not sure if this goes here or in brags or where ever but I thought I'd big myself up for finally making it to the big time stakes of 5nl, just done my first 100 hands for a tidy profit of $3.66 which is a ptbb/36.97 I'm sure I can maintain that:D.

I've read a lot on here that there is no difference between 2nl and 5nl but from this afternoon I would disagree. So far at 5nl they play much tighter and theres hardly any limping. The players I encountered generally had an idea of what they were doing. Don't get me wrong I met some fishy players who were far to aggressive at the wrong times. The regs seem capable as well as even bluffing draws and repping big hands(how dare they bluff at the micros isn't that illegal).

Anyway I'm sure it will fill up with more recreational players later but I definitely noticed a difference for one thing when searching tables hardly any 5nl were above 20% for players to flop. At 2NL every table is at least 20%. Either way I'm just glad to have moved up fingers crossed I can stay there.

Also I'd like to thank everyone on here who have kindly pointed out my mistakes and given me advice it has genuinely made me a better player.

Right lets quickly crush 5nl for 40 ptbbs and then see whats kicking at 10nl.

good luck everyone!!

2NL and 5NL being the same is a myth, at least on FTP.

I won at 2NL from the start (although with nice help from the Lady) and at the end I was winning at 10bb/100 clip without much effort while 5NL is a different story (Lady hates me since I moved up but hey, women right ).

I suppose it may have been true once and of course if a player is really good then he might not really notice much of a difference.

5NL generally has more calling stations and more diverse player pool. You will encounter a handful of decent MSS players and hopefully learn how to combat them (hint: their strategy is very static except for tendency for 3bet exploitation) also some of the players (like us) have started from zero and are on their way up so by default the player pool has to be a bit tougher.

I find it challenging and believe it will allow me to sharpen my skill set before I move up eventually, but it is frustrating at times (depending on the composition of players on a table).

If you get into a downswing, look me up, everybody runs like God vs me :D

Well done. Every time you move up it might seem as though it's much different to the level below.

I think thinking 2nl and 5nl is ridiculous too.

2nl is way spewier on everyone's part imo.

5nl is full of nits who graduated from 2nl with weak tight play.

It's still easy if you can adjust a teeny bit though.

After all there are not miracles. Everytime i move up a lvl i need to read again the books that i think i read 4-5 times and everytime i find that a lot of things i did not understood the first time become clearer and clearer. Experience with learning are a must do. You get confortable wih some things but there are things you do no know how to deal with. If you go back to the books you find the answer.

Man that's a lot of grinding!! Congrats I don't know how you can do this!? I get so bored at playing the same stakes and have to mix it up. It is probably smarter to do it your way because at the end of the day I'm not really sure what was profitable or not for me. I usually have a table of .05/.10 open and a 2.50 heads up going constantly. Unfortunately everytime that I start making some money I up all my stakes and get bumped back down! Anyways I think after reading your method and extreme patients maybe I should jump on board.
