Hey dudes,

So I have recently came to an agreement with another party (who shall remain unnamed unless he wants to out himself here) whereby I am now playing on a stake.

Reasons for me wanting a stake are that I have recently withdrew a load of cash to make the final payment on my holiday to Florida in November, which I'm v.happy about as my goal this year was to make enough to contribute £500 from poker, I have actually ended up adding about £650-£700 thanks to binking a depositers freeroll on 888 and playing 5nl on stars when the billionth hand hit :)

So after my withdrawal I left myself with like $60 to grind back up from 2nl, recently got it to $100~ but in the process have kinda lost motivation, so pros for me of the stake are :

- Get to withdraw monthly in the lead up to Florida, adding to the spending money

- Pick up my motivation, kinda making myself play a set time per month, which is easy to do when you have to, much harder when you can just say meh, watch Sons of Anarchy and grind a grand total of 10k hands instead (last month lol)

- And finally, have a much better player than I able to look over my stats, have a sweat with every couple of weeks, and ultimately improve my game tons....til I'm in the reg pool at his stakes and he hates the fact he taught me how to crush :)

So this will be where I keep track of things, keep up front about my game, and keep him updated.

The deal is that he has shipped me $200 on stars and I play 10nl 6m Zoom to start, having not played a ton of zoom in the past I am profitable over the small sample I have, add to the fact my backers currently playing 6m zoom as well, and the choice was easy, he knows the game well and can help me with zooms intricacies. Its also good for my volume as I play about 1.5hrs per night after work.

Any balance above $200 will be split 50/50 , leaving the intial stake in my account, with it being returned at the end, there is no definite end laid down, but I personally see this lasting until at least the end of this year, and into the future if all goes well.

Have arranged to go over some stuff later tonight and will then get a session in, so will update later :)

Obligatory women for rungood!!

Quick update, didn't play any last night, apart from a 10 min session myself at 2nl zoom to set everything up again on stars (up $1 so ship a winning session to start things off lol) instead he explained his HUD which he's kindly sent me :D and then went over my ranges in different spots pre...which was eye opening to say the least!

I'm not going to give the finer points tbh because they were huge leaks which I can see almost 90%+ of the micro's player pool committing, really opened my eyes to stuff that seemed quite obvious after its explained but I'd never really thought about it, anyways I left that skype session buzzing, like when you just know at the beginning of something that it is going to be awesome.

Really looking forward to grinding on this stake, will start tonight, going to play 2 tables of zoom to start as I get used to my new HUD, and then hopefully up it to 3, looking at playing a minimum of 1hr per day, but thats more likely to be 1.5hrs, hence why I'm playing zoom to increase volume!

Will update with any spots or anything I get into :)

Zoom is harder for sure and lower WR/Higher variance, but volume is a shit ton more which is great when don´t have much time to play. On the other side maybe i´m
wrong but i remember you never really crush 6max before, and was more a FR guy, so interested to see how it works because is the same for me.
Nice to see you are staked now after cashed out most of your roll and even geting coaching. GL Peels.

I want to know the huge leaks pointers, don´t be mean and share at least on PM:)

And +1 on Acky, that´s a 9/10

No I have been playing 6m for a while now, certainly all of this year, I sent my 10nl 6m graphs to get the stake.

Number 3 for me. Them tats, oh boy!

+1 love women with tats lol

TYTY :)

Played my first session on the stake last night and b/e, made a couple mistakes I think in the first few hundred hands, i think I was trying to make too many changes at once, which along with getting used to the new HUD was never going to work.

Hand below was vs an unknown villain, I think turn call is marginal at best and obv river is a fold, levelled myself into thinking that he may be bluffing a missed FD but it takes a certain type of villain to x/r a FD ott and then bet the river :/

Meh. You already know where you went wrong. Just for extra clarification though. Any player knowledgeable and aggressive enough to X/R the turn as a semi bluff is going to be doing it larger. Sizing is so nutted here.

Hand 2, stack is fine, don't think theres much merit in making the 3bet so large though, $0.90-$1 is going to make it just as easy to get the money in post with his stack size, but its fine.

Hand 3, yeah 3bet the fish, as played it looks good, i don't think raising flop would be good, just keep his range wide and weak like you did.

Hand 1: i played alot of zoom this month and this is usually a set or two pairs. Id definitely go with set. Let it go. when ur applying alot of pressure and villain suddenly goes over the top at this limit,9 times out of ten they have the ultimate supernuts, or else they would be check calling.

Hand 2: standard hand. Shoving or calling a shove is fine.id 3 bet to 0.95. just cause bcuz.:)

Hand 3: i like the way you played this.

In by the way, and GOODLUCK MAN. im sure you will figure it out real fast. It's abc poker really to win 6 max zoom at 10NL. Keep it straighforward for the most time.

First losing session of the stake last night, though not by much, few hands which I know I played badly and some that made me think a little, was generally a little card dead tbh, not many hands in playable spots, and a lot of the time when I did open I was being 3bet, one of those nights where you can convince yourself that everyone has your game cracked and start doing stupid stuff back, but when its unknowns doing the 3betting its pretty unlikely, kept calm though and done alright considering, the 1 bi I was down was after gii with AKs on a T9xss board vs T9o in a 3bet pot, lol standardaments :)

This hand I would really like some opinions on, villain is fairly aggressive and loose player so far, 3betting steals a greater freq than generaly 3betting, 30% (10) for total 3bet and 2 of those have been vs a steal, so here otb is this a decent hand to be 4betting bluffing with? There's a chance to catch a very hidden monster if called, obv we don't want calls though, so is this a decent chance to see how villain responds to 4bets?? Once called I'm not sure if we should be cbetting the flop, the turn makes it unlikely he has an Ace but theres not much else we can do but fold right?

I don't play zoom but I think what I have to say has some merit nevertheless.

1st, 4bet/gii pre imo, as played... ugh lol.

2nd, so it was a 4bet bluff? There are better hands to be doing that with imo (ones with blockers to the nuts for example). If we are 4betting a sPP then we are probably calling off right? I just don't like it tbh. We rarely flop anything and rarely improve either. As played, you could cbet the flop small and then give up, or do what you did and just give up.

Yeah what neil said, don't like the 4bet with 33 at all, if hes really 3betting a lot it wouldnt be terrible to just call the 3bet IP, as played i'd cbet like 1/3 pot on teh flop, but dont mind just giving up, i guess AQ,AJs are a bigger part of his range when we don't 4bet bluff with Ax blockers. Like always, keep it simple, sometimes it feels like youre getting 3bet left right and center but its just variance, no need to alter our pre made ranges because we already know they are going to let us defend enough to not get exploited etc. gl

Yeah thanks for that, zoom is unreal in that you can feel you are being CONSTANTLY 3bet through patches of play, you need a strong mind to just ignore it and get on with playing, having the odd patch of trouble, specially my last 3k~ hands.

Been on a pretty shit run the past few sessions and dropped the 6bi's I made earlier in the week :( so back to b/e on the stake after 5k hands. Pretty disappointed with my play yesterday, I should have quit at a number of points, but kept taking a break, getting back on the horse and dropping a buyin instantly :/

Need to fix up, my stats are looking fine I think, but I'm calling in spots where I shouldn't again, really need to stamp that out.

Looking to improve a lot tonight and get the line going back the other way, although I'm tempted not to check results for the week either.

Not checking results seems like a good move. Helps you play more objectively because you aren't thinking about the hand in terms of money, only what the correct play is.

Any hands for us?

Felt like I've been getting squeezed quite a bit lately, although after filtering it looks like its happened 30~ times in the past week, zoom really ****s with your head lol in that something can happen like 4 or 5 times in succession and it feels like its constantly happening!

Anyways, most of the times have been flatting an open with a PP and then getting squeezed and folding, which I'm fine with (Just need to keep an eye on anybody who makes a habit of it)

But here's a spot just now which I would like an opinion on..

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.15) Hero has A:heart: J:heart:

So unknown, presumed fish, opens button, I opt to keep fishes range wide and flat the SB, reg-ish player then squeezes us, he has only 3bet 2/20 times so far, so do we just give him the benefit of the doubt and fold, or can we flat it, as its an obv squeeze spot?

I'm getting 34% equity to call pre, just playing around in stove there, if we give him a range of :

TT+,AQs+,A6s-A4s,KQs,AKo

Which is generous I know, but includes mostly value hands with a few bigger PP's and some Axs stuff that people like to 3bet bluff with.

And we have 40% vs that range, so should we call, or is his range much tighter than that??

You can't really give him a range with only 2/20 as a sample. Besides your playing OOP with a capped range so you are forced to play fairly face up here.

I 3Bet the fish. If he is a fish then he can call worse than AJ, if he isn't a fish then I still prefer it TBH. Would rather have the initiative OOP with a strong suited broadway + blocker, as opposed to a capped range OOP vs a reg in a spot where we are forced to play extremely straightforward.

Yeah it was more of a standard taggy range there, more than basing it on his small sample.

Point taken on the 3bet though, would probs be better.

Definitely 3bet the fish w/ AJs, you will make a lot more money 3betting this hand than flatting to keep his range wide.

As played you are right in that we might have 40% eq. vs the regs range but we're OOP with a very capped range so to make it good we are going to have to realise like 80% of our equity, if we were all in preflop vs that range we would obviously realise 100% of our equity which is 40%, but when we call we're going to play much worse than the reg who is IP and are gonna be hard pressed to realise 80% of our equity imo, but i wouldn't be surprised if it was close, the hand flops well a lot so its not like we're only gonna realise 50% of our equity, id guess its close but the main thing is just 3bet the hand to isolate the fish and get heads up.

last AA hand river is a fold yeah, don't hate checking the turn, seems like a bad card for our range but they could still have JJ, KQs AQ perhaps we should bet once more and hope for a brick river.

AA on KKx, wouldn't call the turn with the nfd still

First hand might be an okay spot to x/c turn as you suggest, a lot of his range will want to pot control and if he bets like half pot you'll be priced in to call but at the same time i don't mind making the turn $1 if he might find a fold with some Tx and pocket pairs, if you feel theres no chance he folds Tx or say 88/99 then i guess checking would be much better

Well July is over, have only been on the stake for a little over a week, but thought I'd do an EOM update anyways:

1c4202ead7caedd235fe3461d6a795bf.png

Graph so far, not sure what went on between hands 3k~ and 7k~ tbh, I think it was a mix of still finding my way at 10nl zoom, some bad play subsequently and a bit of tilt maybe.

Sunday was a bad day, dropping about 5 bi's in total, at a number of points I stopped, went for a smoke and jumped back on when I should have quit really, this got me majorly bummed and I was thinking about throwing in the towel on, not just the stake, but poker in general :( then I remembered a bit in the Mental Game of Poker, where Jared talks about recognising where you've done well in the past, and I thought that I wouldn't have been given the stake if it weren't for graphs etc that showed I was capable of winning. I've decided to start using a program called value check, to implement a stop-loss of 2.5bi's, just to make sure that I don't go blowing twice that again, if I feel like shits just not going right and I'm being sqzd/3bet/called a ton when stealing I'm just gonna call it a day and come back tomorrow.

So I sorted my head out, and I think I'm now in a good place again, I think I've found a style for me thats a winning one, might sound lol-ldo but I'm concentrating on tightening up in the big pots and being a bit more bluffy/aggro/wide in the smaller ones, I think this is where a good chunk of money can be made in zoom, raking in the 20-40bb pots when we're IP with initiative, obv depending on villains I'm being careful of getting carried away with 1 pair hands vs regs when the pot starts to grow, trying to keep an eye on this though and making sure I'm not losing value.

I've been giving unknown villains the benefit of the doubt a lot, the hands below could v.well be a nitty folds, so I'm putting them up for opinions.

First one I feel like, although it is a sqzing spot for villain, I have opened utg so my range is at its strongest, I'm not last to act so I didnt like a call, didnt like a raise, and folded...

Wondering about opinions on spots like the next hand too, we have to call 80c so eff stacks are big enough to give us >10-1, guys also passive so far so we can often realise our full eq when we hit, but its set mining in a 3bet pot so meh, as played are we happy with taking a stab when checked too?

I dunno how tight Zoom is but I would seriously never be folding AK/QQ pre flop at 10NL without a solid reason to do so. I doubt players at 10NL factor your raising ranges into the equation when 3Betting. Especially considering they are unknown and therefore have no clue on your raising ranges, so they can't actually make a decision based on that anyway.

I fold pre with 66 , I'm also checking back that flop. Primarily because of what happened to you in this hand. If he has AK then he is checking to give up. By checking back you can control the pot and you ruin his plans when he wants to check raise you. A bet on the turn from you has the same effect as a flop bet but without the risks. No hand he can X/R the flop with is going to check any turn. Therefore you can easily barrel turn + river with little risk and a high success rate.

If he plays 9T this way then he can play sets this way too. Bet/fold flop and GII OTT IMO.

In summarising it doesn't look like you are tightening up. It looks like you have ran into a bit of variance and are now playing scared to try and avoid the emotional downs that can come of playing poker. Fact is you are a good player peels. You can beat these limits so don't worry about it.
