^^^ Don't mean to be rude pantin, but that isnt really a very good explanation to someone who is obviously new to the game.

The nuts is when you have the best possible hand at the time. So if you hold 6,7 and the board is 4,5,8,k,q. You have the best possible hand with the straight, so you have the nuts. If you have the k,q of diamonds, and the flop is 2,6,t of diamonds. You have the second nuts, because if someone had the ace of diamonds and another diamond, they would have the nuts.

I hope that makes sense

Also, the nuts can change as the hand plays out. While someone with the A and another diamond has the nuts in the above hand on the flop, it is still vulnerable to being outdrawn by someone with 3,4 of diamonds if a 5 of diamonds comes on the turn or river (giving them the straight flush).

If the board pairs, that can also allow someone with a set (maybe holding a pocket pair like TT) to improve to the new nuts (in that case, a full house).

The concept of the nuts is especially important in Omaha, where your draws should always be to the nut hands, and you often have to fold what was previously the nuts when bad cards come on the end.

Technically, the new nuts would be quads, in that case. :D

And the "stone cold nuts" would be an unbeatable hand. That is, a hand you can not lose with.
For example, if you have 6/7h and the flop is 4/5/6h you have the stone cold nuts. You cannot lose no matter what the turn and river are.

You rare make the stone cold nuts on flop though.

savage means if you have 7,8 of hearts, not 6,7. They knew what they were on about, just typed it wrong.

I heard one story about the term "the nuts" comes from the old west days when one would bet the nuts that held the wagon wheels on. You better be sure then.
