I know all of you take notes on players, and I'm not a very good note taker. I was wondering what you guys look for when you take notes? Do you use any Shorthand, Etc.?

Usually I note the players that play really well or very badly. I use the different note colors to indicate a type of player.

However, in my experience, I rarely see those players again.

For a decent article on this, go here: http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/pro-tips-archive.php#; click on All Pro Tips and scroll down to #172: Taking Online Notes on Opponents by Paul Wasicka.

On FT, I try to color tag everyone as an initial "note". Orange = Lunatic; Blue = Passive; Red = Aggressive; Green = Tight. Lavender = known password thief/sharer/begger. Unfortunately, this nice little function isn't available on other sites, so you have to go with just notes.

Then, as the game progresses, I try to add: What (game; NLHE, LHE, Razz,, StudHi, Stud8, PLO, etc.); When; Style (AIM [All In Moron]; LAG; TAG; Weak; Passive, etc.); particular patterns like aggressive bets primarily when in CO, Button, SB, BB and the like. In hands that go to showdown, I like to use the Replay/Last Hand button to check on what they were willing to call or raise with. When my Pokertracker 3 was functional, I frequently added data from that to the notes for future reference.

Poker is a game of information and the more you have, the better off you are.

I do a color codeing of sorts also, a bit differant than hipshots, but pretty much the same idea.
I also started adding the month and year to my notes after a reply to a thread I started here. Some one mentioned you might not see the player you made a note about for a while and their style could have changed. After I type the 3/09, or whatever the first time, I right click and copy it so I can just paste it on the next one quickly.

This is the thread I mentioned: https://www.cardschat.com/forum/poker-rooms-10/player-notes-full-tilt-144075/
It is a reply I got from FT about loseing my player notes after switching computers. It explains that they are saved on your computer and where, so you can transfer them if need be.

Thank you for re-posting that. :D I must have missed it the first time around, although I remember the thread. I play on more than one computer and this will allow me to keep my notes up to date on all of them. Good insurance as well. Wonder if any of the other sites have this type of info stored that way? Just have to ask, I guess.

I start with basic stuff like loose or tight, passive or aggresive, straight forward or deceptive.
Then i take notes on how he played the hands he showed down, for example villain whent to show down with AT i put down AT(UTG),R(pre-flop action)-c-bet(flop action),bet(turn action),call(river action) and then the board A9274.
Then if i play alot with villain i will start putting down stuff like what level thinking i belive he is one and ect.
And ofcourse i allways put down the game and date in the notes(worthless to have 2year old notes from a 1$sng or w/e if your playing same villain at a ring table)

But im way to lazy in my note-taking. mostly just let PT3 handle it :D.

In cash games, I make notes on the interesting hands my opponent plays against me or s.one else, with extensive details. What he did preflop, postflop, his bet sizing etc. Then I make my assumption on what kind of a player he is, and what I should look for next hand I play with him.

Those notes help me great a ton. It makes it so much easier to put them on hand ranges and exploit that image.
