okay guys, i feel like an idiot now, learning all this BR management stuff right now. I would always set limits for myself while at the tables(i.e. get up to x amount and quit for the time being). However, i am convinced that i am playing at too high a tables now. I used to buy in for 50 and play the pot limit .50/1 or the .25/.50 NLE tables. I have risen to 260 before only to start playing 1/2 tables. I would catch a bad run of cards and my bankroll would diminish way too much. I realize now that this probably isn't the best BR management. My question to you is, I am looking to buy back in on full tilt poker. How much should i buy back in for and what tables and sit and go's should i begin at(from what i have read the 2.25 are easy money).
Lets just say i was to minimum buy in for 50. Where do i go from there?

With $50, you're going to have trouble using proper BR management. You want to have 20x the max buy-in for the ring game level that you want to play, so if you wanted to start off that 10max (I think that's the lowest on FT), you would need about $200 in your account.

I think these numbers are a bit high, I have played with 20-25 buyins for SnGs (at the 5 and 10 dollar limit) and never had any problems

It's better to start with figures that are relatively high, and which can cope with a long run of bad luck (say a month, rather than just a day or 2). If you start with too small a bankroll, you can just bust out.
Then again, if you're perfectly able and willing to redeposit, then you can start with a smaller amount, because it's not the total limit of your available funds.
One other thing to bear in mind, though, is that most of the poker sites deposit bonuses are a % of the amount you deposit, so it may be worth looking at how much you need to deposit to get the maximum return (and additionally how much you need to play in what period of time to clear the bonus, to make sure you don't have a bonus that expires before you earn it)

Cash games are easiest way to make money, but also the easiest way to lose money, that was my problem when i started out...
good thing you want to take a break from cash games, it has helped me

Or play limit, that way you can get much more experience at a relatively lower cost and don't risk going busto playing the minimum FT NL stakes.

I have pretty good success at playing sit n gos and mtt. i started playing cash games and was getting killed at first. I have since switched to limit cash games and have had better success. so for me i need to stay at limit cash games until i build a better bank roll.

You don't have to dip into your bankroll for punctuation. :icon_porc

I would always set limits for myself while at the tables(i.e. get up to x amount and quit for the time being).

This is a mistake no one has pointed out. Win/loss limits are not the best, most profitable way to decide when to leave a table. Why leave when you are winning? While there is something to be said for "locking up a win" you've built an image at that table as a winner and conditions are profitable there for you. If something changes and you are no longer profiting at the table THEN leave. A couple bad beats can also get me to leave while I've still got a good win.

I agree a buy-in of $50 doesn't leave much wiggle room. $150-200 is much better. And play in a comfort zone at low stakes. Follow the 5% and/or 20x buy-in rule or whatever and work your way up. You'll be better for it.

This is semi-true at low limits since:
a) Players change so much that you do not develop an image. Plus, people play their cards and don't always notice that you're winning, or don't change their way of playing (giving you more respect) to reflect this.
b) New players can arrive steadily and you don't necessarily want to risk losing your winnings if your edge diminishies or vanishes completly. Low limits sometimes completly changes dynamics and players withing 2 orbits and decent players can replace all the fish in an heartbeat.

Against known player and a steady table (such as live or when you know well your opponents), booking a win is rarely the right move unless you have lost your edge in an another way (tiredness, steaming, being bored, etc.). I like to hop around tables online since very often, there'll be a juicier table if I have played at the same one for 1-2 hours.

starfall makes a good point. even at a low or microgame its good to have a large enough bankroll to sustain the highs and low of the game. not unlike blackjack, you dont wanna have just enough to get by. give yourself a chance with a good sized bankroll.

well cesco, cash games as you know are about as different from sngs as you can get. when playing a cash game i like to a couple things. be rested, eat before i play, and if i get tired walk away for a while. there is almost always in a cash game to go once more around the table. but i recommend you should listen to your inner voice and not stay at the table longer than you know you should. no matter how good you are, if you sit there long enough you will lose whether because of your lack of focus or because the cards just dont favor you. hope this is helpful.

That isn't true at all, not saying that you wont get times when the cards don't favour you, we have all been there.

However, If you play cash games, it is just one big haul, each different session has no bearing, The cards don't know how long you have been sitting there, they wont fall any differently because you have sat there for just ten minutes, or three days. The only things that will change is your decision making because of fatigue, mentally and physically, and as you say lack of focus.
