No limit v Fixed Limit

Hello all, hope u r all winning lots !!!

For a change I have started to play a few fix limit games.

How would u guys suggest I should change my style?

For example, early stages, middle position I call with 98o. flop is A, Q, 8. Would u suggest calling a raise hoping to catch another 8 or 2 pair? that kind of thing. In this scenarion playing no limit I would put in a decent raise and see what the other guy did.

Or do I quite simply play my normal TAG game?

I'm no expert on Limit, but this hand is "fold pre-flop". If anything you need to be tighter in your starting hand requirements because more hands go to showdown, and you have to show down the best hand to win. Also, medium suited connectors lose their value in Limit. The example above depends of course how many other players there are in the pot, but it's basically a fold.

You would raise in NL with 98 on a flop of A-Q-8? I don't like that move. That's definitely not a tight-aggressive play, it's very very loose.

What I should have added was after the flop there was only me and another guy and I was first to act. So I mean a `probing` bet to see if he had a bit of the flop or already had a made hand. The example I have given is not the best, as I would rarely call with 98. I think in the above example I was on bb so I only had to put 20 chips into a pot of 70 to make it up to 90, if that makes sense!!!

Number one thing is tighten up your starting hand requirements. You can't bet people out of pots in limit, so you will need to have hands to win.

As far as the suited connectors, you can play them but only do it in bigger pots. The value of these hands is the draw, if it's only you vs one opponent the hand loses signifigant value. If you have three or four players in the pot before your turn you are getting good value to play that type of hand. Same goes for mid to low pocket pairs. Only mess with them if you are getting good odds on the pot.

To sum things up, No limit is a game of psychology. You don't need to always have cards to win pots. Limit is a game of playing the odds properly. If you play strong starting hands and don't chase cards with bad odds then you should show a profit.
