So basically I've beaten 2, 5 & 10nl with a pretty standard ABC approach. When moving up to 25nl it feels like that no longer works.

I've studied a lot of players, and most of them talk in combos (say defending x % & x combos to make person Y's cbet not auto profitable) and playing their ranges instead of their hands when playing the board (for example checking back a 853 2tone board w. 88 cause a lot of their range would check this board.)

I feel I am not on this level of thinking yet, but I would like to get there. So how do I get started to reach further in my poker journey?

Thanks in advance

What keeps you from being able to recognize what you would do in their spot? Are you using poker software to analyze your game? If not, that would be a huge addition to your game and could be all you're missing.

You sound like me. When you move from one level to another it is really strange feeling and the players are much different. What I did was to get my bankroll to that level where I could lose the buy in and not hurt me real bad. I don't plan to lose but it can happen when you are trying to figure out what the difference is. When I moved up to 25NL I could not stay there long because those pots were any where from 5 to 10 and I was used to 3. But when I finally got used to it I then could not go back down because I really played loose. Well GL to you

You're off to a good start, conscious incompetence. You know what you don't know, so work on learning it. Actively think about what range you've repped, and how this board fits that repped range.

Same for villain. What range is he likely on given his actions, and can that range actually call a bet here? Then the next step is figuring out if you want him to continue putting money in the pot or are trying to make him fold.

If villain's range cannot pay off a bet on this street but maybe will if you check and you want more money in, i.e your range is stronger than his, then check. If you're on a semi-bluff or simply want to capitalize on the dead money and his range can't necessarily handle multiple streets of betting, then you should bet.

It's not like it's simply that black & white, there will be other factors as well. But that's the general idea. How many streets of value can I get from this guy's range? How do I get that money in?
