My new strategy now has become in a game that all the players are there to just play and dont care about anything. This is now a game of drawing hands. Just before I left the table to get my left hip replacement on the 6th I noticed something. After I had gained the reputation at the table to be the town shark EVERYONE calls me. This may be just because some of the players are so drunk they are falling off their stools. Most buy ins are only $20 or $40 dollars. Here is a example now Im in 4th position it is a $1-$10 limit game. Under the gun raises to $2, next two call I raise to $10 with KK EVERYONE CALLS. This is a $100 pot and my great hand just flopped a ace. This kind of play crushes a player that plays by the book. And you just cant yell at the other players like Mike Matusow. So what can you do?

Change your game to this if you cant win with great hands. Only play with premium drawing hands. This time when you have even a3 suited raise a little preflop to build the pot. Hands for this strategy are Ax suited or one or no gap connectors. Suited connectors one two or no gaps, AKs, connectors only above 56 The reason why I do this is that if i play my odds and raise the hands just alittle to sweeten the deal preflop YOU will win more back then you spend on the draws. The preflop raises will not hurt you because if you dont hit it or get a very good draw fFOLD. You will lose less money this way then by betting your PP or top pairs to death and lose to a 48os that just went runner runner. With nine or ten players in on the hand until the turn this will happen alot. This ONLY works on tables that you know that will not raise preflop but will call anything. I have seen this in most small towns where in the only bar in town there is a poker table. Because of the bad plays by most of the other players you have to use there stupidity to your advantage. I would love to hear some of your opinions.

I see what you're saying, but just don't think that means you should lose hope on hands like KK and QQ just because overcards keep hitting though. I mean, you're saying that hands like Ax suited are great for this drawing strategy. But is A8 suited, for example, really a better "drawing" hand than KK? I submit that it is not.

Let's pretend a pair of kings will never win by itself and look at it as a drawing hand:

With A8 suited, you're going to flop 2 cards of that same suit 11% of the time. After that, you have about a 39% chance to improve to a flush on the turn or river.

With KK, you're going to flop a set 12% of the time. After that, you have about a 37% chance to improve to a full house.

In other words, you're about as likely to draw a full house with KK or QQ as you are to draw a flush with 2 suited cards. The difference is that the full house is going to be the best hand more often than the flush, and that hitting a set gives you a made hand even if you miss the FH, whereas 4 to a flush is nothing unless you hit.

And I should add that I think it's commonly suggested by pros that small-medium suited connectors are actually worse to play in limit because your implied odds are much less than in no limit.

I think you have missed the point of the post. All your points are great for any other game. The game I am refering to is a game full of people that dont care to learn the game and will 99% of the time will always call anything with anything. This is the situation that I am faced with in a very small town. The players i play against here will call a $8 raise with a 72, 49,q5,k5,23,6t every time.

I think i should have added that you should play preflop hands like KK QQ AA. When I put axs down that is A anything suited. In a very soft game like this hands like KK or AK TT or AA are the hardest to win on because there will almost the full table calling any raise if they have a dollar in the pot or see a face card in there hand.

I know what you mean by this, its the same thing that happens in freerolls, low tourney buy ins, and most turbos i have played in... people just dont care about what they have until the flop comes.

And its just plain sucks to lose to 82, 72... hands that most people wouldnt think about calling the blinds with, nevermind a minimum raise ... especially when your holding a monster.

I agree with the way that you play these type of hands, raise a little pre flop to get the pot going, in the long run when you hit your hand (i.e. flush or straight, trips).. you will make great profit, but if you dont hit, you've minimized your losses to all the chasers that called your little preflop raise.

Well said quazar66

quazar, combuboom didn't miss the point at all, he was pointing out that these hands also work well with your strategy of drawing to a monster.

He's not suggesting play KK as you normally would, but rather pointing out that KK can make trips or a full house every bit as often as something like A8s hits it's flush. So you can keep the same style of play, but there is a bigger range of profitable hands to start from.

Seeing as an Ace will flop only about 1 time in 6 if someone has one in their hand, the story could well have been different. Just remember that there's a good chance your Kings are no longer good with 10 people in after the flop - but you have more chance of flopping the best hand than anyone else, unless they have AA. So as long as you don't over-play it, you've got a lot of money in the pot with the best chance of winning. I'd rather win 1 in 3 big pots of $100 than 4 out of 5 pots of $20.

I see what you mean about the KK. I do over play it more then I should. Although it is tough to play them when you raise 10 times the big blind and you have 8 or 9 callers.

Bombjack very good point I would like to win some big pots rather then alot of small. But the bread and butter of poker is what you do with the little pots which happen way more then big pots.

Thanks again for your input. It is aways better to hear what others think then just yourself.:)
