Hey, Ive been having good results with this recently and was wondering if I could get some input from you people here.

I know that poker is not a game of strict strategy and always doing something with a certain hand, its more a game of feel, but I feel the formula I have been using lately is very good. Preflop is pretty much raise or fold and the raise is atleast 4x BB. I only play the best hands, AJs and better and I will raise with these hands. If I get rockets or kings I will usually raise a little higher. Maybe 6x BB. With mid to low pairs is the only time I will limp in and hope to catch a set, If I dont hit the set or if there are any overs on the board I will get out. Of course there are some times I dont follow this, depending on my reads on other people. Then when the flop comes, I only bet or raise if I have top pair, very good kicker or better. Ocassionaly I will bluff if I see a weak player make a weak bet but only if it is only me and him in the pot. If I catch the nuts on the flop I will usually slowplay or throw out a small bet in the hopes of getting raised, but if I have a very good hand after the turn, I bet hard and raise harder. Amazing what people are calling me down with. I used to just try to value bet more but I realized that 3/4 of the time they will call a bigger bet anyways.

Well, this is the strategy I have been using for my Low limits NLHE Full 10 person ring game. (.05/.10c blinds).

What do you guys think? Is it stupid to have a strategy like this or is anything flawed with it?

nothing glaringly wrong, just very abc and straightforward and easy to predict

It seems very straightforward and easy to read, but for some reason at the tables at poker.com its like people arent even trying to see what other people are doing b/c I get called over and over by the same people with nothing. Im sure it would be different at a higher limit table, but at the micro limits it works surprisingly well. Just won another 8 dollars in 45 minutes. May not seem like a lot, but for a college student that is a lot.

Not exactly new. Once others catch on to your style of play it will be difficult to win big pots against decent players. Of course, most online don't pay attention so it should be ok for longer than it would in a live game.

One thing in poker though, you should mix up your game and not try to play the same way all the time.

great

Maybe at levels you are playing those are great strategy's but realize when you move up levels the players at other levels are going to be able to figure you out with little effort. The levels im guessing you are playing the people dont care about watching how you are playing, most players playing at those levels are there to have fun not to make money (some are put in general most are not).

Like someone said this is a straight forward strategy you have come up with, but also realize the best players are ones that can change up their strategy at any time to maximize their advantage over the table.

You don`t say anything about position, BW. Do you factor that into your thinking at all ?

My own basic game is very much as you have described (though perhaps a little less rigid). However, I am willing to play a much wider range of hands from late position.

I play basically the same tight strategy at the micro ring tables. Sometimes I limp in with a nice pocket pair and sometimes I don't. Your results may very.

I find that you only have to show a bluff now and then to keep them all guessing.

Lol, yea, i was absolutely terrible back then.

My favorite line:

Just won another 8 dollars in 45 minutes. May not seem like a lot, but for a college student that is a lot.

That'll work if you play at a very loose and rich table every time. Otherwise, I'd say mix it up a bit more.

Thats a basic safe tight strategy.. Sometimes its not bad to see flops if you can catch a cheep limp with suited connectors.. The real way to win money in cash games is catching the nuts with off cards.. See the final hand of Casino Royal to understand.. He takes the pot of 120 million with 710 of spades..

I guess it can work in the low limits where everyone is a lot more aggressive anyways but i reccomend u dont move up limits to $1/2 abov with this strategy. The players will become a lot better and they will be better at reading u and will just get kicked up the ass most of the time with this.

And if i joined your table where u were playing and u used this strategy i would only make money out of u and not lose. U need to be unreadable or a lot harder as the limits rise

As for the reads at lower limits just show a bluff once and then keep playing tight. Yo woul get called even more. The tendencies I see in low limtis are people are trying to resemble the pros. Thus they will try to make Ace high call on the river just to feel as pros.
