I'm relatively new to playing Poker (only been playing for about 2 months and only have ~3,000 hands). I've busted my "bankroll" last week, but not because of poker, so I have to start fresh. How many buy-ins would you recommend for 2NL NLHE? I'm currently thinking that 50 buy-ins is safe enough, but I want some advice from more experienced players, what do you guys think?

I think that 50 buy-ins are good to play but you have to remember that you should know when to take out your money and have profit :)

The book says that whatever your roll is that you should play 1-2% of it. Now that's the book and most players play above. I will go as far as 5% of my roll but I have been known to stray a bit father if I see good games like when they have the MOSS,OSS and BOSS on WPN I will stretch my % to about 10. The reason for the low percent in accordance to your roll is that eventually you will hit some variance and most new players play above there means and bust a lot early then they should had they stuck to around 5%. Good luck on the felts!

50 buy ins is plenty if you are a solid winning player. If you are a long term loser no bankroll is safe. How do you know if you are a winner? You need a huge sample size. people have different opinions on this. Many thousands or even hundreds of thousands though is not unrealistic. I would say look for a time when you are playing well, really well but you are getting crushed(bad luck or random mathematical variance). If you have one of these epic bad runs and survive it then you have a big enough bank roll and you are likely good enough to continue playing. For me I had several months of winning live poker at 3 to 4 thousand dollars a month(mostly 1-2 but some 2-5) when I suddenly had one horrifying day. I lost 900 in 6 hours and never was worse than a coin flip. Many loses were 2 or 3 outers..I was "shell shocked" I stumbled through the month and was down 1800 half wway through..got even then fell back to 1600 down. I finally got even just at the end of the month. I was surprised at how well I played but that I had won zero for the month. I played better that month than I had all year. Lesson learned. Variance will bite you at some point. Be ready for it and have the bank roll and the mental game to handle it.

You must have 100 entries for tournaments of the same value, so you must have 50 entries and cash games you must have 25 to 35 entries.

The minimum with what I would play NL2 are 30 buy ins, with 50 buy ins should not have problems recovering from bad beats

If you can't keep your roll, better deposit small and often than big and often. 3 to 5 BI?
