Good evening! Just to say what a great website i have stumbled across here hoping to have more of an input in the near future (if all goes well).

Im having a bit of trouble believing in my poker abillity atm. Been studying for some time and am constantly taking breaks to look at some more info and after a few reads here i went for having a crack at cash after only really sitting down and hammering SNG's.

What im finding is as with when i tried investing some time in SNG is that everything starts rosey but then soon turns pear shaped! I've uploaded my graphs and session data for people to see. Am i jumping the gun here thinking i should give up or is this normal results?

I can read and read and read but it gets me when you see quotes like: "if you cant beat this level then there is something wrong"

I might be slightly under-rolled for the 10nl i have taken to and you may be able to see that my 1st session was at 5nl which would be closer to the BR i have at FT right now but i only see info really for 10nl+

Just seems that when i start taking something seriously i can do no wrong but then everything falls off the rails!

Im playing 4 tables a time.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Welcome to CC! You have found the right place to get help improving your game!

Don't forget to post in the introduction session introducing yourself to the forum.

Don't sweat the 5 & 10nl stuff too much. We all have a lot of problems trying something new and there is a lot to analyze and learn. Read through a lot of the posts here, the 10nl stuff is definitely close enough to the 5nl stuff don't ignore it, it will apply. It's all micro's.

I like that you mention you look at your sessions and are studying your info, you are already ahead of a lot of the new members here. I also like you have mentioned your bankroll, a lot of people do not understand proper bankroll management and it seems to me you are already ahead of the game.

Read through the posts and articles and then ask questions as you will probably find most of what you are questioning has already been asked and answered, but don't hesitate to ask anyways if you still have questions.

Welcome again and good luck to you!

We can't tell anything by those graphs. Try posting your results by position or whatever its called on poker tracker 3. I'm guessing you're playing too many hands out of position or you're not raising enough preflop or something. You're green line jumps around quite a bit more than it should.

Also something to note - Its hard to analyze anything under 10k hands....in fact I believe most people would like to see about 25k hands or so until they can really analyze your play. For now though if you just upload a screenshot of your stats by position I bet we'd be able to help you with a few major leaks.

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the helpful replies, I'm gonna drop back down to 5nl an put in a few more hours to get me up to 10-15k hands. As to posting a screenshot of postition, do you literally just want a screenshot of the position tab or is there a report or something you want me to run, if so what?

Im giving up! I dont think im cutout for poker! Cant say as ive ever made any 'real' money and since trying to follow my play with stats it proves that im break even at best!

I drop down a level tonight and i thought my play seemed ok but could never got above 2-BB/100 then the shit really hit the pan and i have ended up -28.47-BB/100 over 600 hands! Thats my biggest lose since the above records started and at a lower level!!!!

Whoa! Slow down there trigger. Poker is not a game measured in hundreds of hands.

Look at large numbers of hands- several several thousands. Or look at individual hands.

The tracking program won't make you a better player. But it will make you aware of the mistakes your making.

The best measurement if poker is by each decision. Knowing what you knew at the time did you make the best decision?

If you made the right choices- even if not the best was it ok?
That is how you need to look at it.

And if you can't push past a 600 hand downswing then maybe poker isnt the right game. Because you will have downswing that number in the thousands of hands.

Do focus on good decisions and toughen up a little.

You really need to grasp some fundamentals of poker:

Variance - You have to mentally prepare yourself for some brutal swings. I mean really, really prepare yourself. If you think your gonna lose your mind losing say 10 buy ins in a session, and there's no way of you getting your head around it, then give up now because you will have many of these and it's possible to have losing streaks lasting 20-30 buy ins or more, believe me! Your success as a poker pplayer is not about yesterdays's session or todays, it about the long run!

The long run - Your sample size is really small to take anything meaningful from. If you think your a winning or losing player after 3k hands then you have no grasp at all what the long run is. Variance will hopefully equal itself out over many many hands. How many? Well you need to have played literally 100's of thousands of hands or even millions for these things to have some perspective. I mean you could get some meaningful information from say 50k hands or so for stats and winrate, but variance will take a lot longer to even out than that.

Bankroll management. - The above 2 topics are the reasons why you should plactise BRM. Having enough buy ins as a buffer to absorb the variance and keep you in the long run game. Without this, your basically just gambling and hoping to spin your money up.

Thanks again for your helpful input! I'm cool, calm and collected again now and am going at it again tonight. I know my hands per hour will drop but I am going to drop Dow to only 2-3 tables to see if I can pick something more up on my game.
