is there ever a time when limping as the first better into the pot is advantages?
I believe it's always better to raise into a unopen pot when you are the first one into the pot preflop.

When you you want to play your hand, but you would not call a three bet; most people at your table have been limping with hands stronger than your hand.

Don't limp when first to put money in PF!

The only rare situation I would do it - maniac shoving 50% of his hands sitting to my left, I have a good hand that I want to play if possible, but not go all in with (ATs for example).

You can only play like this if your a super nit. What % of hand do you raise with?

Just because you don't limp when you enter the pot doesn't mean you are a nit!!

I play around 18/14 at 6max, tight but hardly a nit :)

Sometimes I call rasies from others preflop, but I never limp in when I am the FIRST one to put money in the pot. Makes sense?

I've had to do it in a tournament before. Guy to my left was relentlessly defending his blinds so the only way I could steal was to limpand then just bet out when a high card came.

this, but also never say never when it comes to poker. i can imagine a situation where i would limp, but this would only be dictated by table dynamics and not by cards or anything :)

Yea if you have a reason for limping i.e. you expect it to mostly have a particular reaction from other players that you can then use or exploit to your advantage, then yea I agree. But you also know something about what you are doing. (At least you have fooled me into thinking so...;))

A beginner should simply leave open limping out of his/her vocabulary.

I want to clarify I asking about cash games
In tournaments there is a few situations where limping as the first one into the pot is okay
But in a cash game I can't think of one situation when it's preferable

Villian shoves 100% of pots with no raisers, he is directly to our left and we pick up a premium. There will always be spots where certain plays that are usually horrible are in fact optimal.

Never is a good enough answer.

Obviously, there are spots where it is optimal, but for someone who has to ask if you shouldn't be open limping, they shouldn't be open limping.

First if you are limping you are calling not betting and yes there are situations where a open limp is a decent play - it depends on a range of factors including but not limited to the following - your image, the other players, the type of game being played, is it a cash game or tourney. If it is a tourney add in your stack and the size of the blinds. The key is to know why you are limping and have a plan to cover the reaction of the rest of the table.

So far no open limping however never say never
I been playing in extremely tight 6max games with lots of 2 and 3 bet folds
I think limping with KK or AA to open the pot might be a good play in this type of table

Adjust by open raising more hands, not fewer.
