so I just recently started to play online, so far I have been doing decent but not great. I play a lot of live games but am tired of driving 60 miles to the casino. Online I feel myself getting antsy and seem to play more hands than I probably should be. If you guys could give me some tips that would be great.

Hi there

People are really helpful on here but probably need more info before they can help.

- What live experience do you have - how long? stakes played? etc
- What stakes are you playing online?
- Do you have a tracker? What are your stats VPIP/PFR etc?
- Do you multitable?
- How many hands have you played online so far and what's your winrate?

There are probably more questions but I'm sure you get the idea and it will give people a chance to work out how to help.

GL at the tables!

I've been playing for roughly 6 years the last 3 have been when I really started focusing on poker. When playing live I play 5-150 limit, online I've been playing .50-1 no limit and lower for the other stuff I don't really know I don't have a tracker (do they have one compatible with Americascardroom? ) and I'm just basically looking for beginners help with online poker.

So you're playing 100NL? Well my first suggestion whilst you're learning would be to drop down in limits and start at the lowest levels while you're getting to grips with the online game. Apparently online poker is much tougher then live so even though you may be playing those levels live it doesn't equate to the same level online.

But I'm only a newbie so I'm sure someone experienced will come along who can give you some good advice. :)

play always in position, online aggression doesnt mean great cards, use stats software, play one slow table for starters, dont underestimate micro-stakes,check your results and dont forget: small mistakes multiply on the net and rake will hold u back so dont get disappointed easily.

Online play is much more aggressive and many players will be more likely to call you down with marginal hands. If you can adjust to those two things you will be fine.

Ya that's one thing I noticed way more aggressive with marginal hands.

If you're rolled for NL100, you can (note I said "can", not "should") play at that level provided you feel comfortable against the level of opponents. Just be prepared to drop down if you find your game needs work to be viable, if you don't feel comfortable enough, etc.

I'd start with 1 table. You'll play roughly 2x as many hands per hour as you're used to live, so get used to the overall pace before looking to multi-table.

Once you are comfortable with one table online, try opening up another one and another one until you are comfortable playing multiple tables at the same time, this will stop you playing marginal hands and give you lots of action so to not get bored. (don't open too many though, if you find yourself timing out on tables reduce the number).
