I’m looking for some advice on multi tabling. I’ve searched the forum and haven’t really found a solid strategy for multi tabling. I see the up side of being able to increase profit with more tables running. I’m a big MTT and SNG guy. The lower buyins with the greater rewards helps me maintain proper BR management. I do play 2nl and 10nl ring games as well. What I normally do is run four tables, a 10nl or 2nl ring table, a two to three dollar MTT with guaranteed money, a SNG table, and recently some double or nothing SNG’s, or MTT SNG’s. I try to keep four tables running at all times. Usually when another MTT with guaranteed money is about to start I will close the ring game I’m playing and replace it with the new MTT. If I get knocked out of an MTT I’ll replace it with another SNG or ring game till another MTT starts with guaranteed money which meets the criteria for proper BR management. I’ve just started this strategy over the last few days and have had some success. However, I don’t have a big enough data set to come to any real conclusions.

I’m interested to hear if anyone has a solid strategy for multi tabling. What kind of set up do you have? Do you run duel monitors? Can you run more than four tables and keep track of them? When you multi table do you change your playing style? What type of games are you playing when you multi table? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Trigga

You are better off concentrating on one main form of poker at a time to efficiently multitable. If you are mixing in cash and sngs and mtts you are constantly having to readjust to little things like bet sizing, completely different styles of play, different # players at a table, etc. and that requires extra concentration that could be reserved for additional tables.

If you have a big monitor you can probably tile a fair number of tables, otherwise you'll probably have to cascade or use a custom layout. The more tables you play the tighter you have to play in general. Other than that it just comes down to playing alot and working out what works for you. It is pretty easy to do 10+ full ring and 6+ 6max tables once you get used to it (and way way more if you play nitty and don't mind getting owned coz your reads are pathetic).

:D LMAO - so true!

OP, I'm having a tough time even getting to the number of tables you're running, and above is exactly why I have this problem... I generally play 2 MTT's plus 1 ring game or 1 single table SNG simultaneously, or 2 MTT's plus a really cheap MTT - my strategy is pretty TAG/nitty early on in MTT's, so it's not much of a problem for me early on.

But the only way I get to deep runs in MTT's is by really paying attention and identifying potential weaknesses in everyone's play, and how the table is behaving in general. Once it looks like I have a shot at a moderate to deep run, I have to reduce to two tables, and if I think I have a shot at a deep run/final table, I have to reduce to one. Otherwise I have to rely on position and the cards I'm dealt - and I, like everyone else, have a tendency to go card dead at the worst possible times :).

To me, there's a real difference between multi-tabling ring games and MTT's - I don't mind playing ABC poker in rings, and maybe for STT's, but it doesn't work for me in MTT's... but I'm still learning MTT play, so maybe it's more a matter of experience...

I think feitr is on to something here, and that I would recommend you specialize in one form of poker - either the ring games or SNG/MTTs. I have heard of both sides being able to 20+ multitable and usually the story is the same, they all just kept adding one table at a time. I've heard that SNG players typically tier out their games by 5 minutes to help them give themselves time once they are down to the last 3 or 4 players.

I have a dual monitor setup, and all my tables load up on my "main" monitor (24" 1920x1200) and my "stuff" like HEM, pokerstars software, etc all loads up on my 2nd monitor (22" 1680x1050).

I guess its the (1920x1200) that is important, and there is a set minimum that each table needs. That's why 6 tables are overlapping on my larger television screen, I need to get a better monitor if I want to tile 9? How many tables can you tile on each of those monitors, Ice?

Monitor size is what keeps me from playing to many tables at once. I normally play no more than 2 tables at a time.
