Hello all,

Quick question, i follow the 5% of my bankroll rule pretty strictly. However when i am multitabling. Does the rule apply per table to 5% at each table etc. or does the rule apply total so i only want 5% of my bankroll spread out among the tables i am playing.
Just to simply in case that was confusing. Say i have a $200 bankroll, 5% of my roll is $10. Can i play four NL10 tables or do i play 4 NL2 tables to stay within my 5%.

Thanks

You can play 20 tables of 20NL if you like. The amount you have on each table doesn't make a difference. Its the amount you're wagering on each bet (which is generally the amount you have on the table when you're playing no limit games).

However, I will say that I think the 5% bankroll rule is outdated. If I was playing 10NL, I'd probably play with $350.

Welcome, btw.

Thanks, i don't know if i would call it oudated most of the reading i have done says to still follow the 5%, but either way you are saying its ok to put out say 40% of my bankroll as long as no more than 5% is at each table?

ignore the precents for a second there. Work with buy ins instead. The classical approach is to have 30 bi for the limit you play in micro stakes and at least 50 for 100nl+. The amount of tables you play should be determined by your comfort and success levels. I feel comfortable playing 20 tables of 10nl while i only find myself to be comfortable playing 8 of 20nl.

Ok, so maybe i will wait until i reach 300 before I play NL10. If i am understanding you correctly as long as i have 30bis i can play as many tables at one time as i want? This makes sense i just want to clarify before i went and put more of my bankroll out than i needed to. I can play 6 tables pretty comfortably but when its time for me to play NL10 that means i would have 6 BIs out at a time. That seemed like a lot to me.

yeah, you got what I said... 300$ in my opinion is fine for 10NL
600$ is fine for 20NL
etc etc.
only reason having 6BI should really hurt you is if you come to the conclusion that you are not making the right plays, the small 1s especially because poker in my eyes at least is a game of bleeding.. you bleed a lot of chips gradually and then you regain them.. if you can't stop the small bleeding that will intensify over 6 Tables incrementally.

Hi..Say you are a very successful MTT player and enjoy a Return on Investment of 100% - that over time you expect to double the money you spend on entry fees. Now we look at a typical payout structure for a large multi player online poker tournament. 15% for 1st Place, 8% for second and 4% for 3rd going right down to 0.02% for 100th place. You will see that the payout is extremely skewed to the top few places.
