Hi, I am currently playing the microstakes 2nl / 5nl and lately i have been trying to play a bit more during the day. Typically between 09:00 and 14:00 on pokerstars. And what i`ve noticed is that my winrate has gone considerable down. This could ofcourse just be a downswing and nothing to worry about, but i am wondering if there is a proven fact that nighttime and evening games is more profitable?

Any insights on this is most welcome.

I play for many years now, and I don't think that the time of day has an impact off the level off people that are playing. What does change is the country where the people are from. I'm from Belgium (Europe) and when I play in the afternoon there are a lot of russian players online. If I play in the evening the russians go down in numbers and the Amaricans (as in the continent so south america too) increase. But to my knowledge it doesn't matter where you're from it matters how you play!

Thanks! I think i’ll give it a couple of weeks, and if my winrate continues downward, i will just go back to playing nightime games. Perhaps it is when Im on my sharpest. Anyways, Thanks for your answer!

Others change with time of day.
Maybe you also change with time of day.
The result is the same: play at the most profittable hours
For me: time doesn't matter, but Tuesday is a bad day.

Ye, starting to believe this aswell! How did you notice Tuesday to be a bad day for you? Due to winrate? Or just a general feeling?

I for example noticed that in the evening after 18.00 it is easier to play than by day. This is for Europe. In the evening hours it seems to me a lot of players after work and sitting down to play.

My favorite times are in the evening when a lot of fish are on, or at night during weekends when people are drunk.

Yes, and i totally agree with both of you. redmast, would you say that "optimal" playhours would be between 18:00 and say 23:00 ? (Before they go to bed) ?

Have stopped playing on Partypoker actually, they ruined my chances of playing in Dublin.. I play mainly on ACR right now, but i also have a BR at both 888 and Stars.

ACR is great for tournaments.

For example, if you play during the day there will be big overlays in prize pools, aswell as non-stop on demand tournaments who are quite easy to cash. Great support and a rather soft playing field everywhere.

This is very true for my local brick and mortar poker room. I try not to play during the day time hours. The games are just too tight. I like to play any time between 7pm and 7am.

I'm sure the same goes for online. The best times to play are when the euros are online.

All times below are US EST and applies to Pokerstars.

Between 10 am - 5 pm are high volume hours loads of players online. Making players unpredictable but prize pools larger. You can sometimes get really bad players this time that you can take advantage of. Whether you play cash or mtt this is when the money is big. Great time to catch a heater. Weekends have even greater volume.

Between 11 pm - 4 am smaller fields less prize pools. Less bad players but less really good ones. Players are far more on solid side and thus more predictable making them easier to play with and understand thinking of opponents.

I tend to lose the most at night. Mornings tend to go well for me but I can only play weekend mornings when I don't wake up past noon, haha!

IMO, the most profitable time to play poker is in peak times

In my experience you have more regular players who play during the day so you have to up your game during that time. At night time is when you get more the more casual players.
