It seems like more people fold pre flop with a under the gun raise with big hands like aa ak kk qq type hands

Yes, that's right, start the game with a bad hand is not very desirable, it is better to wait for good cards.

It's more profitable to open on the button. At a 9 handed table you need to get an UTG open through 8 people as opposed to only two people following a button open, and UTG will be OOP vs all but the small and big blind post flop while the button has position on the whole table. There's a reason why we open the smallest range of hands from UTG and the widest range from the button, it's because we like playing post flop as the aggressor with position, especially in a meta where people tend to check in flow and fold when they miss when OOP.
