I've heard a few times that playing cash games and tournaments at the same time is a bad thing. What is the reason for that? 90% of my volume consists of cash games, while I like to play a few freerolls at the same time, so I can practice my tournament play as well. Is this something I should stop doing?

It is depend on your comfortability. If u feel that freeroll playing with cash at the same time do not spoiling cash game so all is good. Otherwise u should correct situation

As for me, there is nothing bad in such playing

If you are good enough there is no reason not to.

However, for new and medium skilled players not mixing the completely different playstyles is mostly too difficult. The same applies to playing different levels in money games too, for medium skilled player mixing 2NL with 5NL is a disaster.

You should not mix the tournaments and cash games, because they have different strategies, and it is difficult to switch. But if You do not cause discomfort, then why stop.

I agree! If you play as a cash tournament, the success is not achieved, we must fundamentally change the style of play.

I wouldn't mix the two. Sounds like your cash game is on auto pilot. Need to step up in limits.

Yeah I can see that. And I think it's affecting me too to at least some extent. When I started playing I decided to focus on cash games, and have stuck to them for the most part. I still like playing tournaments, but I often feel I play too tight in most tournament situations, probably because of the cash game mentality I have built up. I guess it does no harm though, since it's only freerolls, and playing tight works there, at least in the initial stages of the freeroll.

A tournament mindset is very different from a cash game mindset. I don't like to mix them.

Different strategies can make it hard to play both. At least for me.

By mixing the two at the same time, unless you are a pro, things can get confusing. Your brain will have crossed signals time and time again for different hands and one can make mistakes much more often. The pressure of multi-tabling ins't for everyone.

If you think you can handle two tables at once stick to two of the same games so you can be more successful. Also keeping a record of your play and sessions will help you realize when and where you make the most profit.
