Some of you may know me from the tournament section. That is where most of my experience and study has been. I've been playing tournaments for 10 years (playing well and studying well for maybe 4 years)

I've recently decided to add in some cash and try to become proficient at it; at least well enough to earn a decent hourly rate once I bust from tournaments. I doubt I'll ever abandon tourneys but desire having a way to keep playing once I bust (especially when I've travelled out of town).

So for about a year or maybe 18 months I've been playing cash. mostly $1/2 and $1/3. Doing fine. making mistakes and learning a lot but still clearing a decent win rate.

I got invited to play $10/25 on poker night in america ladies cash game which was probably way over my head and probably a poor decision to accept but I sold action and played. It changed into $25/25 right before taping started. and quickly they were straddling almost every hand so it was basically a $25/25/50. yeah...woops. I played mediocre at best but got lucky and made some money.

This brings us to now. I'm going to try and be realistic and humble and go right back to $1/2 where I belong. :)

My goal in this thread is to learn and share and challenge myself to play enough volume to reach a goal.

I'm rolled plenty well enough for $1/2. My personal challenge will be to make enough profit between now and the end of the year to donate to some charities. Charities that I will let the regular followers and posters in this thread vote on by the end of the year.

I have 130 days or about 18 weeks and I work full time....and I play tourneys.

My #1 goal will be to put in at least 100 hours of volume at any stakes of live cash
between now and end of year.

My #2 goal will be to turn a profit and I pledge to donate 5% of those profits to a tax deductible charity chosen by a select group within this thread.

My #3 goal will be if I am able to turn a profit of $10,000 or more in cash between now and the end of the year I will host a $200 freeroll for a select group within this thread (basically anyone who subscribes and comments semi regularly).

Please follow and give me any feedback. I do not claim to be any kind of an expert at cash. This is a learning process that I hope you'll take with me.

My first post....is me faceplanting on a live streamed $5/10 game.

I agreed to play in this game that was too big for me at my local cardroom because I was preparing for poker night in america and I thought it would be a good simulation of the same pressures I would feel on that show. I only had 3 weeks to prepare so I think it was correct for me to take this opportunity, even though I played quite poorly. (I can't say why 100%). Probably a combination of being in stakes that I wasn't comfortable with and being filmed and critiqued and I just choked.

Interesting. I will be following your progress on the road to 10K. I made it to the hand where you flopped a set with AA before the video froze up. That was a hard fold and a great one at that. I wonder if him showing the 8 of clubs influenced your decision. Good luck!

Yes I was leaning towards a fold anyways because of a live read. When he shows the 8c there’s really nothing else he can have besides a random bluff.

I wonder if he just made a mistake; or if he was trying to take it easy on me by showing?

I thought maybe he was trying to pull a bit of a double entendre and make you think he was a liar to induce a call by showing a card that seemed like it was too obviously a flush, considering how the hand played out.

Hard to lay that down. I think its the right move. I obviously can't see your opponent, nor have any inkling of his play over time. I do for some reason want to assume this is a fairly loose and gambly game from two hands. The thought of those games makes me tingly lol.

*I meant to ask if there is a lot of seeing the flops for nice pots.

I went back and played 4.5 hours of $1/2 after busting the tourney and made $177.

So my profit for the night was -$2

And my profit so far in this challenge is -$2 over 5.5 hours

Good luck
Will be following.
Personally never limping along with small suited garbage like 42 for exactly the reason that you never know if your flush is going to be good. Ax suited fine I limp along.
AK If the HJ is a good player and has been floating you, I would probably fire the turn there and maybe even give him 3 barrels as we have the nut flush ace.
Not sure about the river actually, hes going to have a lot of 2 pairs here or a small flush , so I might check fold or check shove depending on reads.
Have you read Ed Millers live cash games books? If not I can thoroughly recommend them.
