With no real draws, except for a small possibility at a sraight, you had to figure that you had the best hand. One question though, how was this player, loose, tight, etc.?

Do you know anything about the guy with the tens? I mean the river shove raise is rarely worse but if you think he'll do it with overpairs or 2 pair, calling seems standard. It's probably a marginal river call when he shoves but my guess is it's really close and calling is fun. :)

Only had like 30 hands on the guy. Certainly not a NIT. I don't see how I could have laid it down at that point. One of those cringe situations.

On the bright side I'm beating 10NL for 12.44 BB/100 today despite that hand.

Yeah that makes it tough if you don't have a read on the guy, and there really was no reason for you to fold, because your hand clearly looked best. That does happen sometimes in poker though.

I cant really see any way I wouldnt go broke if I was in your situation. Unless I had a SICK read on the guy. Im not the kind of player who can lay down a set just yet. I think you played it well.
Same thing happened to me tonite, I had 77 and villain had 88.

I hate limp calling preflop, I hate your bet sizing on flop and turn. Calling or not the river raise is arguable, but it's not an argument i'm interested in since we should have gone broke on earlier streets already.

Should have bet pre-flop (don't limp... at least don't open limp), bet too small on the flop/turn.

River, yeah, cry and call. Shouldn't have gotten in this spot though, you should already have the pot built up to the point where you shove into that bigger set with a fist pump (followed by some crying inside).

Thats basically what I was going to post.

The fact you got coolered on the river is trivial to the mistakes made preflop, on the flop and the turn.

Holy crap, I guess the unconverted hh got me cause I didn't notice he limp/called preflop until I saw Belgo's post. I usually actually just fold 55 there preflop but if I do play it I definitely open with it.

Ya WVH, I was wondering about why you didnt say anything bout that.

I fold this PF too unless the table is really nitty, then I raise it, TID and leave the table....

Thanks for converting it.
I dont like my previous post now. Limping is just going to get you in big trouble. Regardless, BTN would have come along though. The problem with the flop is you bet way too small. Its tempting to set traps but at this limit its not too profitable. Id try to get more value by betting 1/2 to 2/3 pot.
If taking this line, Im probably betting pot or more on the turn then Im bummed on the river.

Too many players imo. Fold pre-flop.

I hadn't looked at this thread in a few days. Thanks for the advice and I will be sure to convert my hands in the future.

So you open with the 55 and then call a raise Belgo?

So you open with the 55 and then call a raise Belgo?

It depends on the table. In order to call a 3bet oop with the intention to set mine you need to know that the 3better has a super strong range. If you have villains behind you who will 3bet you light often enough, folding 55 in EP would be my preferred line.
