So lately, after a good run, variance has set in and in the past few days my bankroll has dwindled from the $100 mark down to $50 playing $5NL (it's the lowest limit on Bovada...would like to be $2NL.)

I've felt really confident with my playing up until recently where it's been suck-out after suck-out. Literally, while multi-tabling 3 tables, within a 10 hand time frame, I ran into a straight flush while I had a flopped set and 2 sets of quads.

After some deep thought, I wonder if I'm being too aggressive at the micro limits. I feel like my biggest flaw is that I will try to steal pots maybe a bit too much. Also, the lack of any player notes really hurts but I will be switching sites soon.

Basically, do you feel like it's better to be NIT or more TAG at the micro stakes? I think I'm just questioning my actions because I've hit some bad luck but would like some input.

I'd rather be TAG than NIT anyday.

You definitely want to be playing sets aggressively, you will get coolered occasionally but sets will still be massively profitable hands in the long run.

I keep trying to remind myself of that. It's just been cooler after cooler lately so it's been demoralizing to say the least.

i just started playing on bovada this past week. It has been a little adjustment playing without a hud, and the whole anonymous thing.

you could just be running bad, but maybe let go some of the marginal spots.

I've gotten coolered a couple times, but overall the play seems pretty fishy. i just have to keep reminding myself these guys don't fold. and will call you down with all kinds of stuff.

Downswings happen. Some are completely outside our control, but sometimes, we contribute to them by not playing our A game while running bad. I think its more helpful to assume the latter; if we don't tell ourselves we might have developed leaks, we're less likely to find and fix them. And if we're not at fault, we haven't lost anything by determining that this is so.

If you're gonna start folding sets then what are you ever going to play?

Just remember, if the same cards were dealt but the other way around, same would happen. Then again, easier said than done, I'm currently 15 BIs below EV and more if you would like to count cooler flops, but there's really no other option but to brave it out, not like you'll quit poker.:D

I wouldn't let it get you off of your game. Coolers happen. I definitely wouldn't start folding sets.

What time of the day/ night do you play... I find that at 3 - 6 A.M. Pacific there are some of the most horrible players on there... where as 5 - 11 P.M. Pacific at night is a hard time to play... (Usually the regular good solid player's are on mixed with some idiot player's... and usually the solid player's are rolled to buy in with 100 BB's so it creates a tough situation on you end). I would not give up just yet... and I know I will get chewed out for this... try buying into the 5/10 tables even though you are under-rolled... come in with $5 and you will be shocked at how much the game play is different compared to the fish festival on 2/5... this is just from personal experience... I hope this helps you.

My two cents,
Moe:cool:

Edit... when you do the 5/10 try to start off with one table where the player's to flop is high and the average pot is low... just common sense, but I thought I would add that in... As for your downswing... it is all just variance... trust me... if played right you will get back on top... just don't lose control as Bovada is a pretty nice site to play on... Never a connection issue and a very lucrative sign on bonus! Still... no rakeback :(

Being too aggro at micros is definitely a huge leak. Aggression only pays off as you get higher and higher up the stakes and gain fold equity. Since you have little fold equity at micros, play tighter and dont bluff a lot.
