What do you guys or girls do with something like J9 suited. K10 off, A9 off etc in the small blind if there have been a lot of callers in front?

I often fold and then the flop comes to taunt me.

Just wondering if this position is one for strong hands only or if it's possible to semi-bluff convincingly from here.

context is needed

if the pot is unraised, and there are a lot of limpers, then the pot odds justify a call with marginal hands, hoping to flop a monster cheaply. if you miss the flop you can let it go easily without having lost much.

in a raised pot, i'd probably let them go, but that depends on the opponent who raised. if they are tight, its an obvious folding situation. if they are loose, then i may call, but maybe not since i'm probably going to have to toss it on the flop.

if its an unraised pot with lots of callers, i'd go for it and see what happens. but you have to be very careful if you hit one pair, or even a flush because you might not have the nuts. in general i think the play can be profitable but you have to make sure to get a good read on your opponent, and do not risk going broke on one of these marginal hands

Thanks Senadiel.

Good points, yeah I didn't give much context but these kinds of temptations vary so much you know?

Didn't want to fill a screens worth with all the possible variations of when I am tempted to do this.

What you say makes sense, why call a raise?
People aren't always trying to steal blinds.

Thanks again.

i might call a raise with suited connectors because of the implied pot odds. your opponent probably has big slick or a pocket pair or something they won't lay down easily. if you hit your hand, it will probably pay off big. looking at the odds, it depends on how many callers there are, and how large the raise is. i'd probably call a minimum raise if there was already 1 caller. that gives pretty decent pot odds to try to flop the monster. i dunno.... statistically it makes sense to play it in certain cases, but a fold is also well advised if you don't like a lot of volatility in your stack. i don't think passing on these hands will hurt you too much, and it definitely saves you some risk. when you do hit your hand though, you will hit it big...so it is a tool to add to your arsenal as you improve

It depends on the size of the blinds compared to your stack, and exactly what cards you have. Because of your position, you're generally not looking for a hand that you'd be bluffing with, you're hoping to improve cheaply on the flop (to something like 2 pair or better), or ditch the hand, generally.
The big danger is that if you get even top pair with a mediocre kicker, you're in a difficult spot in first position, so you're wanting to hit 2 pair or better, or perhaps a good draw (which then will make what is probably the best hand, or nothing), rather than a hand where you really don't know whether you're ahead or not.
