Low stakes: Low Pocket Pairs

So Lately I keep running into spots where I 3 or 4 bet a pot big because of the limpers and cold callers from a min raise or something. I usually still get one or two callers at either a 6max/9max table. My 3 and 4 bet range is wider now because of study but it isn't absurd. I end up hitting the board sometimes or c-betting reasonable but when I get to showdown the villan continues to show low pocket pair sets.

Do players at lower stakes always set mine or have I just been set mining incorrectly? I am pretty sure the goal is to get in cheaply with low pocket pairs if you are not playing them aggressively, correct.

I would like to hear some thoughts.

At low stakes I recommend 3-betting for value. Maybe open up and 3-bet a depolarized range once you're solid postflop. They're gonna call with garbage often like suited connectors/small PP/sooted aces/sooted broadways, and will call you down light OTF. So imo 3-betting a polarized range isn't that great. Better to 3-bet polarized if your opponents play a 4-bet or fold game, which is not really that common.

Yeah, I'm only set-mining if I'm getting good odds from the blinds or OTB since we'll be closing or near closing the action. Gettong squeezed is annoying, and we lose our preflop investment.

Set mining is very valuable, but you should to do it correctly. Read Nathan Williams "Crushing the Microstakes".

Do you mean lowstakes or microsakes?

If microstakes: Limp pre / call raise if you have odds / setmine or fold

Profit

You really can't 3 bet light in the game you describe. Since no folds the pocket pairs are getting the right odds to call, especially if the can count on you to Cbet.

Best to join the limpede and only bet/3-bet your monsters. If you start getting folds you can increase your betting range.

Alternatively you can increase the size of your 3-bet until you start to get folds. That's the high variance approach.

Thank you for the advise guys. I will use it wisely. I will tighten up my preflop 3bet range a bit and charge even more for the premium hand. It just seems like I continue to get felted by low pocket pair sets because I am expecting everyone to fold after a huge open of 6x or 7x. I will just fold the over pairs more I guess after getting raised

low stack could be more often limp/call for set... and then when set try to get all stack

Set mining is the only way to go in my opinion. Espically with 1010 or lower

Might not have implied odds with low stack.

In this instance I would be more inclined to shove.

Well, actually I would be more inclined to top up, but you get the idea.
