So I've been getting a lot of pocket 2's, 4's 7's etc. and was wondering whether it is smart to be raising pre flop on these types of hands in late position when no one else has raised yet.

On a related note I was also wondering whether you all consider these hands to generally be worse than say AK suited or high hands of the sort. Any sort of opinions and commentary on strategy with small pocket hands would be great

Thanks

Whether they're better or worse than another hand depends on the situation. Stack sizes, player tendencies, etc.

Raise it up for sure if you have an unopened pot to you. If you're playing 6max I'd open every pair from every position. If full ring, I tend to fold 22-66 in early position, raising the rest. Then unopened pots in middle position I'm opening 22+.

1.22-66 (small pocket pairs)
2. 77-10 10 (medium pocket pairs)
If it were a cash game then i would limp these from early and middle positions and only if there are no limpers when in late position i would go for a raise or else limp there too.

In a tournament it is much more difficult to decide how to play with small and medium pairs because so many other factors come into making a good decision. So it is much harder to say what to do when and where. One thing is for sure if i have under 10 big blinds then i putting my chips in with any pair.

Technically any pair is better than an AK but that does not mean you always get it in with them and start flipping coins. So it's better to not try to figure out which one is better or worse because it is not as simple as that. Any hand whatever it may be has to be played according to your stack-size, position and according to the action on the table. So do not try and generalize/simplify. :smokin:
