I'm fairly new to them and I'm looking for a point in the direction for any useful articles/sites that will help me improve. I'm reading all I can and playing games to get a feel for it and try things out. Any advice on developing a winning strategy? I'm going to document everything as I learn

sit n go's are great to build a bankroll and practice for final tables-now there are plenty of strategies online-but the ones i find that work great are
1.play tight early on as there will be many aggressive players usually by the 8th orbit 1-3 player are out-only play premium hand like QQ KK AA AK AQ-now with that being said if you dont hit with hands like AK AQ do not continue after the flop-just let it go and wait for a better spot-

with any pocket pair JJ or lower just limp and depending on the flop proceed cautiously-also if you limp with these hands and get reraised just insta fold-

2.now when you are getting close to the bubble with like 4-5 players left and only top 3 get paid-you really have to turn up the heat-open your starting hand range-hands like A10 AJ KQ any pocket pair become more valuable and you need to be pushing these hands hard-your objective is to finish first-do not be afraid to bubble as you need to play to win-

I used to play a lot of SNGs but I'm all for playing ring games now since I'm more successful in those, but of course there are successful SNG players at all stakes (check sharkscope or something).

With low buy-in SNGs people are usually looser than usual so I'd sit tight for the first few hands or so and you can usually tell who the donks are fairly early. When you get a good hand don't be afraid to play it hard. On the bubble you'll have to loosen up your play a lot and raise in position.

i have found that overall being very conservative helps a lot, it takes a lot of patience tho, turn up the heat if your stack starts to dwindle and when the blinds are worth grabbing!

Patience & be prepared to face allin bets & calls by folks holding nothing. Suckouts happen, but in the long run solid play will out.
Good luck.

I have been having some success at the low limit SnG's, and I agree with what everyone has been saying. In the beginning you need to be very picky about your starting hand. Play the hands you are in aggressively. I would say that continuation bets with position are a good idea. If you don't hit your AK or AQ, don't be afraid to throw out a bet if no one shows interest after the flop. If you have raised a decent amount, you shouldn't be up against a strong hand. Again be cautious, if you meet any resistance then throw it away...no shame in letting your Cbet go, and people won't call/raise with nothing (they have you beat). Have fun and make some money :D

Sometimes I do better in SNGs when I get distracted and get timed out for a while. When I wake up, I'm near the bubble and not in bad shape...

thanks guys, that's some good advice. i love playing and reading about poker. you guys have confirmed a lot of what i felt were the weaknesses in my game. i've tightened up my game and find i only really get beat when i am unlucky (like i went all in yesterday on the bubble with QQ against someone with QK and they hit a K on the turn). I think i need to play my hands more aggressively as well. i've found myself limping with AK rather than raising because there always seems to be some idiot re-raising with almost anything. i'll keep learning and trying to improve my game and hopefully i'll become a good solid player one day

All previous advice is good - play premium hands from late positions.
See cheap flops.
When u got the goods be aggressive especially with position.

Only see the flop if you are getting good odds. that means play only =premium hands unless lots of people limp and you are late with crap call too! if it hits (2 pair or straight) make a pot size bet. you are probably up against big cards AK may call but he is now not getting good odds against you.

sng

When I play SNG games I like to play very tight at the start. The only risks i take are flush draws and sometimes top pairs.

You can make it into the money almost every SNG as long as you can avoid getting donked on the river by some idiot...
