i actually play a lowball strategy. It is making small raises to get the information that you need. It works for one of two reasons, one, you get more money invested post flop which is when all the hard decisions come into play. and you also don't have to risk so much preflop so if you get reraise you can let go of medium value hands much easier. The best players in the world play this style. to name a few. Gus Hansen, Daniel Negraunu, Phil Ivey, Michael Mizrachi, etc. If you know any of these guys (sarcasm) then you will understand why it is a strong way to play. If you are a good decision maker post flop then maybe this is the style you should be playing. It all depends though, do you like to see a lot of flops and try to outplay your opponents. or do you like to get it all in with the best hand preflop and hope it holds up. if you like the first choice then go with small ball, if you like the second then play high ball. it just depends on how you like to play. different styles for different players.

easy game

take notice of players cards before betting and only play low cards.....and i meand low....2 7 9 isnt that great of a starting hand if somone is showing and ace and you see other players have a 2 and a 7 showing ...patience is key because alot of players just like in hold em play way too aggressive early on.

Also, there was an instructional video that you can watch and learn low ball. It's taught by Daniel Negreanu and I think it was on youtube, I'll find you the video. Even though the acting is really really bad...terrible actually, the concepts are very good. :)

sorry it took so long to get back to ya, been working hard this week. But yeah, daniel negraunu's publishings all have some pretty good insights into the small ball strategy. Look up any of his books and you will get a good read regardless, plus know some of the info needed for this style. I think he has 2 or three books out, i have only read one, but from what i know, he explains it well in most if not all.

I have found the lowball strategy especially helpful in deepstack tourneys.

those videos on youtube are focused on bright sides of low ball . at early stages of a tournament, when blinds are 40, u have a decent hand, u raise to 120, get 3 callers, pot 480, hit middle pair at most, raise 180, get 2 callers, more than 1/4 of stack gone, now what ?

it only works in deepstack tournaments ......I actually use it tough when i'm close to the money since u get more respect from smaller bets.

OK-now I don't feel so bad about not understanding this post. I thought he was talking about razz-it used to be called lowball. Thanks for clearing that up.

smallball strategy sucks, no half decent player will fall for it at any cash games online, i saw tone of guys trying it on me and i just start 3 betting with any pair. now what do you do? maybe you will 4 bet and it will work once or twice but i still fail to see how it will work in the long run, betting small will just give people odds and betting small is a sign of weakness.
