Its weird. I'm not sure where to make my adjustments. I think I might just be on the tale end of variance because I just started playing on ACR with freerolls. I Placed tenth in a jackpot freeroll and got started with a bank roll of $2.80. The next night I had it up to $50. It wasn't until the next day that I started seeing my bankroll tank and its like I lost my groove. Ive been on a downward spiral all the way back to under a dollar. Something is off and I cant place it

It's called online poker for a reason, those are all of the symptoms right there, lol. Just stick with it and you will be even more confused by the bad beats.

It is just poker in general. Don't see any difference with live or on-line as far as variance. It can have you chasing you're tail if you let it.

Going over hand history could expose some leaks. What stakes and type of games were you playing from the $50.00 to $1.00 run?

Sorry to hear, but it looks like you need to have a look at bank roll management.

If you're losing confidence it's time to slow down. The last thing you want to do is play a lot when you don't feel good about yourself. Wait till you're feeling optimistic and then try again. If you do well - keep playing. If you don't - take another break. I think that confidence has a lot to do with what we're capable of at the tables.

Looks like you were playing in stakes too high for your BR because you got it up real fast and then came crashing down withing 48 hours.

1. Bankroll Management

I know its said alot but it is key to success. They don't call it grinding for nothing. The only way to avoid downswings is to play freerolls.

I do not agree with the statement that there is no difference between online and offline poker, in online poker ,program is working to reduce the number of players, so players with garbage hand go to all in knowing this

I do not get it right, but it looks like you got a good number with freeroll, jackpot... very fast and did not know how to handle it as well, but first you have to see what your best style is and your best kind of specific game, I see many people saying that you should bet 10% of your bankroll without directing which type of game, but just watch the big players of the tournament that have 1,000 more tournaments without a big hit.

You have to be honest with yourself, is it just variance (what kind of game?) or did you have bad plays ...
Playing money that will not affect you if you lose, nor you confidence and courage, nor your game, nor your personal life, be grateful to have what it has, and learn from mistakes...

Confidence in the game is everything, just patience that results will arrive, focus on the process. GL and Hard Work!

Online poker will bring huge swings - some seem almost rediculous. I went from 0 to over $750 on BOL and lost it all to 4 bad beats in a row, 3 to the same guy- makes me wonder.,

Having grown from 0 a certain bank, we should not be conceited, and play with caution. Always keep in mind that a few bad hands, and we can lose everything. But at the same time it is necessary not to be afraid of losing money. Here is a contradiction. :D

Keep your head up! Always stay confident. Maybe you should write down any mistakes you think you might have made, whether it be about a hand you played, bankroll management, or the mood you were in while playing. Writing things down always helped me.

take a break, hit the poker study lab and work on your game. review hands that you were unsure of what to do in and run them through pio solver or some equity calculator. drop down in buy-in and grind.

Bad streaks have it all, you just have to know how to learn from your losses and try to return to be the winner that you surely are, it is only to believe in yourself and not let this affect you mentally

If you went from $2 to $50 in a day, you were experiencing the upside of variance and when you lost it all it was either bad bankroll management or that same variance in reverse.

So, you really think the program is working against the players? Can you please elaborate further to this conclusion you have came too? What would be the reason a client would do this versus the risk of exposure? How much on-line poker are you playing with this statement?

You lost your entire bankroll in 4 hands and it's making you wonder about online poker? Don't waste the effort, learn how to play instead. Phil Ivey himself woudln't expect to win at any stakes with a bankroll of 4 BI's. Puhhllease. I'm guessing he wouldn't even believe he'd win at 2c/5c blinds with a 4 buyin bankroll.

Wiley - Sounds like a bank roll management problem.

1) Firstly going from $2.80 to $50. This is massive leap in a night. What were you playing?
With such a small bankroll you should have still been playing freerolls. I have $22 bankroll at ACR (worked up from 0 with freerolls) and am planing on getting it up to $50 before going for $1.00 tourneys (50 buy ins) or $2.00 NL Ring (25 buy ins).

2) Going the other way $50 to under a $1 is also a BR problem. If I was playing tourneys( which it sounds like your not as 50 tourneys would take up days) as soon as I dropped below $30 I would have dropped stakes or gone back to freerolls. With NL Ring , once below about $10 you need to re evaluate your game.20 buy ins lost sounds like a serious leak in you game.

I don't play PL Ring , so if this is your game of choice I have no advice.

There are many bankroll management threads on this forum, I suggest going through them and finding one that works for you.

Rat

Sometimes we do lose confidence in our game, depends on the mood you are in when playing, if you know the players your playing against you sort of know when they are bluffing or not, sometimes the cards just arnt hitting you, take a break, regroup, just play your game see what works, good luck!
