So i took the bus after playing a lot online lately to a casino near by. Sit down and first 5 or so hands I pick up AK. Noticed alot of preflop calling and even 3 or 4 way pots with a 5x BB bet. So table was really loose.. Sitting on the button with AK preflop and 2 limpers in front of me I raise to 15.. got 3 callers.. Flop was K10Q.. The 2 callers check it to me so I throw a continuation bet of 20 BB folds and this rather elderly man across from me calls.. Granted this is like 1/6th of his stack at this point.. Turn makes board K10Q9.. now he bets into me with another 20 bet.. Now of course im getting pot odds and seems like a VB but I call almost just out of curiousity.. Now the river.. K10Q99.. He looks at me shuffles with chips gives a groan and checks it to me.. Now at this point I just assume he has a J and check it down.. but what does this man turn over? 97s.. This was just the start of the slippery slope i went down but after having to take 2-3 people to the flop everytime i raise no matter the size I found myself wondering.. Can a table full of calling stations be beaten if the cards are working against you? They really take off the skill edge with not being able to push them off pots and it really comes down to who hits better.. How can a table full of calling stations be beaten without ever having monster hands.. Multiple AK, KQ, JJ got beat by just not hitting on the flop and this was even worse since I had so many players every flop I saw..
