I wasn't involved with this hand but it was interesting.

Player A is a very young Wall street guy, MSNL player, 2+2 guy, who has been away from the game for almost a year. Doesn't seem to have a ton of live experience.

Player B is a slightly older but experienced player, also a dealer, knows his way around a poker table.

Player A raises with :7d4::6d4:from UTG+2 in 9-handed $1/$3 game to $20. He had raised the previous 3 hands. Player B calls with :qh4::jh4: from the button.

Flop: :jd4::10d4::jc4:

Player A bets $25, Player B calls.

Turn: :kd4:
Player A bets $50, Player B calls.

River: :as4:

Player A thinks a minute and says, "I'll check."
Player B bets $100.

Player A tanks and folds.

What do you think the mistakes are in this hand, and who played it better? Is Player B's bet a legitimate range merge?

Well, would have to say Player A played it the worst since he folded the best hand. ;) (Thats about all I can say since I had to look up range merging)

If you keep raising preflop, people will open up. Raising to 7BB with 67 suited? You could do that for your first raise when people are more likely to give you credit for a hand. Then he hits what he could have hoped for, and gives up on the river when he is getting around 3 to 1 to call with a made flush?

I think player A plays it terribly. His pfr is far too large with 67s. Then, when he hits his flush he folds.

Player B's hand is almost a bluff on the river as his straight is so obvious and cant really beat that much on this board.

In live games 6-10xBB raises are very common, even standard.

i would say that player A thought that player B is trapping him . its always different when you are in the hand or when you are analyzing the hand just like all of us are doing now. perhaps players A felt that he was being trapped and the value bet on the river just made him feel that he is beaten.:):)

Looks like A didn't know where he was at in the hand. B's range included a lot of J's and broadway cards so he could have easily hit the J and a full house. Player B seemed to know where he was at pretty much the whole hand. He sensed the weakness of Player A's check and made his move. Great bluff on his part.

if your gonna raise like that with 67s, then you need to make that call at the river to be profitable...i mean its a hard hand to play if you flop a flush draw or something of that nature...tough situation though
