I play in these casino tournaments in the UK aswell. they have a range of stacks from 3000 - 8000 with buy-in's lookin at from £10 - £30. In these casino tournaments the first two levels are 25/50,50/100 which are 45minute levels. 25minute break then back onto the new 20minute blinds tournament.
The first two levels of this tournament poker are loose + limpy as hell. Some people will play any Ax (weather it's suited or not) and other forms of crap like J7, QT, K9 etc. If some one raises or reraises then u know there holding good hands. Unless there the donkey who likes to raise all the time, even UTG with 59 of hearts. I've tried playin the limpin/call game and it killed my stack.
The problem with these tournaments is that u could sit tight waiting for a premium hand within the first two levels gettin ur moneys worth untill the break and then increase ur aggression to make more chips. But that wont do it. Ur practicaly crippled when 100/200 or 200/400 comes along and u've only got 3-5K in chips.
This one time I was absolute card dead in a tourney filled with a table of limpers. I started off with 6k, my best PP was JJ which I lost to a villain river trips (made a nice fold) and my best A was AQo lol. Made a few steals but by the time the blinds were 300/600 (still 45 players left) my 6K stack had to get shoved in the BB with AKo against another tight mans raise. He went into the tank and decided to call with TT. Good call, game over for me. Ahwell £20 well worth spent? Could of bought some weed with that! LMAO.
Playin the SS shove game is ur only choice when ur down to a M of 10.
To tell ya the truth these small buy-in casino tourneys as jus there for fun IMO. I find it hard to gain a big chip stack unless ur loose and lucky.
Another thoery on this is that the casino will bump up the blind quicker as they want u out of the tourney so u can go play other casino games to waste ur $$$ on. Not me tho since I dont like blackjack
and im not rolled for NL200 i'll usally go home when I loose in these tourneys. I head to the car n drive bk home. (which thank the lord only takes 30minutes)
