What's up OP.....
Your question seems kinda too broad, and vague.
It is only gonna really be applicable to sitting down at a table full of strangers, and you've never met them. If you play live, and you pay attention to the action, it doesn't take much more than 30 minutes to and hour to figure out who plays what, how they play, who the weak passive players are, who is aggro, etc.
Generally speaking, I just open anything at 1/2 pretty much. I'll open 6h-5h UTG, 2-2, whatever. I only do this because 1/2 players hardly ever 3b, and if they do, their range is so strong I just fold with confidence. I have confidence in my ability to navigate post flop, and make correct decisions. I don't open all the time like crazy, it's like I kind of manage my image and I'm aware of the dynamics if the table has had enough of me or not. I like to think I have a pretty good feel for when to shift gears.
So, the question you're asking is kinda broad, and you could answer it better than we can probably. What is your skill level? Do you know how to navigate post flop? Do you profit at poker over a good sample size?
Yes you can rock the open limp, and setmine only with small pairs. That means we flop a set, or give up. You can call a raise no more than 10% of your stack (if the raiser covers you) to setmine. I prefer to only invest 5% to setmine though, then we can have alot of implied
odds if we smash a set and dude has AA or something. So limping is fine, but raising is fine too. It just depends what kind of player you are, and how good you play postflop.
As for raise size, you need to pay attention to table dynamics, and what people will call pre. If the open is $15, and it's multi way flop, raise bigger than $15. Find the raise size that will get you 1 or 2 callers tops. If the table is so wild, that's impossible aside from open jamming, just raise whatever and don't go broke postflop if you run into a landmine (some dude who made a monster hand with rags vs your AA).
I hope this helps.
