Are live bankroll requirements different to online?

I've read two things: live poker players are about an order of magnitude softer than online (if you can beat 20NL online, you can beat 200NL live) and that you need 30-50 buy ins to comfortably play cash games. So a simple question: given live players are weaker, do you need a smaller bankroll to play live? Or do you need a larger one to counter the variance against fisher players?
