Hi all,
Im planning on jumping into motor cities live 5/10, 500/2000
game. ive played plenty of their 2/5. From what I see, the 5/10 is full of the same forty or so guys that play it regularly. these guys are a mix of good and bad, lags, tags and what have you. I'll be buying in for 1k with no reload. i dont care if people think this in itself is a bad or good idea. mainly, im looking for anyone that plays this game anywhere, Vegas, AC, LA, or Detroit. does anyone think there is a general range that can be played here that would differ from 2/5? And does anyone know this specific game that has any advice on it at all? any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks

Havent played that game but if the same players are going to be playing, then I dont think the play will be a whole lot different. There might be some tightening up and some trying to take advantage of it because theres more money on the line. So be wary of that. Good luck, hope it goes well.

At most casino, 2/5 and 5/10 have the same pool of players with a few exceptions. But generally it is the same level of play. Some players do tighten up a bit and other try to put more pressure on thanks to the fact that each player is risking more money. Be carefully of the guys that know that you are 'taking a shot' because they may try to bully you. But overall, just play your game and hopefully you can come out with a win. GL

Be safe up in the D :) Best City in The World! Not sure how the games are there but the Casino's in Detroit in my opinion will generally have people who are fish but at the same time do not want to lose money have fun I wouldn't be surprised if the competition was softer than Vegas

Sorry this is so late.
my first session went very well and I cashed for5k, it was all run good, not skill,i made a few mistakes but didn't get punished for them. i went back on Saturday and left being up 2k. my 2/5 br is very nice now but I can not play 5/10 regularly yet. there were some sick all in, calls with bottom pair, some really strange preflop raises and variance was a bitch if you were having even a little bad luck. there were two guys that were real good and I made it a point to stay out of there way. i wish I could pick their brains. all in all, it was great and I will for sure come back to pay in a month or two if things go good at the tables for me. thanks for all the encouragement everyone

5-10 No limit Holdem at Motor City

As all of us medium to high stakes poker players know, 5-10 and 10-20 No Limit Hold'em no longer really runs in Michigan like it did years ago. Thanks to PLO eating up all of the action and basically destroying these games its been very difficult to get NL Hold'em games 5-10 and higher running often anymore. However recently (last couple months) at MotorCity Casino, 5-10 NLH has been consistently running every Friday with a must move and now Saturdays as well. These are the only days these games run, any other day it wont even be considered which upsets me because I want to play bigger games more than maybe twice a week without having to drive 4 hours away to Horseshoe Hammond, Indiana or farther to play consistent games. We used to have 5-10 NLH every day at MCC for years until PLO destroyed it within the last year. The problem about the 5-10 NLH game is the Motor City PLO regulars don't like to have this game conflict with their game because a lot of those same players are rich gamblers who would actually prefer NL Hold'em if it were available more but since they still wanna play big they'll deal with PLO. Supervisors know this and wont open 5-10 NLH games during the week unless there is a huge list and demand on the weekdays because they know it would kill the PLO game running so we would have to choose days where PLO is not running. Heres's a weekly cash game schedule of whats played on what day usually during the week at Motor City Casino:

Mon: 1-2 NLH, 2-5 NLH, 5-5 NLH, 5-10 PLO
Tues: 1-2 NLH, 2-5 NLH, 2-5 RxR, 15-30 limit
Wed: 1-2 NLH, 2-5 NLH
Thurs: 1-2 NLH, 2-5 NLH, 5-5 NLH
Friday: 1-2 NLH, 2-5 NLH, 2-5 RxR, 5-10 NLH,
Sat: 1-2 NLH, 2-5 NLH, 5-10 PLO, 5-10 NLH, 15-30 limit
Sun: 1-2 NLH, 2-5 NLH, 2-5 RxR

As of now It runs Friday and Saturday very consistently and the word has started to spread more and more each week. Back in the summer (2013) there were weeks where 5-10 NLH never ran once, even on friday nights because all the old 5-10 NLH regulars had given up on it since they figured PLO had taken over. People wouldn't even bother coming. Since late November the word started going around and more and more people are coming back. I say we try to make it run also on Wednesdays because that is an absolutely perfect day where nothing is really running at all but 1-2 and 2-5 NL Hold'em games. If we all band together we can start running it on Wednesdays which will be a 3rd
5-10 NLH day during the week and a step towards bringing it back all the time. Once we get Wednesday then we can try to get it going more and more days and finally bring it back for good. It's sad that this much effort has to go into making a game run but we have no choice. It's up to us and we can bring it back if we try. So spread the word to anyone who enjoys 5-10 NL Hold'em and get them to come down on Fridays, Saturdays, and now Wednesdays, and we can begin to make certain days specific to 5-10 NLH as time goes on, back to the way it used to be in the good old days.
