I've been playing live 20. - 40. Limit HoldEm for several years as a winning player - I have a solid, aggressive style, but balance my play out. I've recently changed rooms/location and have a magnification of a common problem that I haven't been able to overcome after 4 days at this new location.
Most pots are seen with 5 - 8 way action. There's no ability to protect big hands, and I'm seeing 8-3 suited called cold for 4 bets pre, 7-2 offsuit in the BB when it was 3 bet pre, etc, etc. Pocket 2's calling all the way down with 3-way action to spike a 2 on the river. I normally adopt the strategy that I play the opposite of most of my opponents, so I first tried tightening my game even further - I was just taken off more infrequently, but still on large pots. I then tried lossening my style of play a little and played more suited connectors from behind, and that hasn't worked. It would appear that most of the players in this room have a "hope and a chair" style of play. For the most part, they play like they're playing heads-up, although I'm pretty sure none of them have ever been heads-up or they would understand the difference.
Has anyone out there encountered this issue day after day, and if so, any feedback on what works against a field comprised largely by these players would be helpful. Btw...it's been a full ring game every day so far.
