I believe limit poker has declined due to the next generation of poker players being brought up on televised poker! The no limit was the popular game to show. Now many have never even developed skills for any other game. Not to mention the no limit denotes it's own status. I can remember players like Doyal would sit in whatever had an open seat and keep moving until he found the softest game no matter what it was.
The fact is is if this is the only game youve developed then your leaving a lot of potential money on the table. The loss of limit games will slowly start to shrink the poker population. For years this industry struggled to get into the mainstream, to attracts all walks by offering on the square low limit poker. It was finally out of the back rooms and you could learn for a $20 buy-in. Without an influx of new players the industry will suffer and if an inexpensive non good ole boys game is not offered, new players will feel too intimidated to sit in. Just saying, 86ing the limit game, in my opinion, will send poker back to few and far apart games. Support your limit games as they are tomorrow's no limit fish!!
I was in a $4-$8 limit game 0n the strip around the year 2000. This was smack in the middle of the boom but most new players had only seen no limit games on TV. It was late and the games had gone down to just our one die hard game. Young guy sits in with all the TV garb, hoodie, sun glasses, ear plugs...anyway the game was a social type as most of us worked in the industry. However the new guy wasn't talking, moving or even watching it seemed (and apparently he wasn't). An hour had gone by and this guy had not played a hand. Finally he looks out from under his hoodie, pulls his earphones out of his ears, stands up and pushes all his chips forward and states proudly, "ALL IN". We had no mercy, a few of us fell out of our chairs laughing so hard. The rest just stared at him as the dealer exsplained that it was a limit game and had been all night. He never thought it was strange that none of us thought any of our hands were worth more than $8? I admit I was one of the ones with tears in my eyes from laughter so I don't know what even really went on much past that he was just gone when I finally composed myself. Those same kind of guys however are the :call2
