Limit Deception

Reading a cool piece from a mathematics professor... this applys generally to limit holdem, basically to increase your deception at the table, he suggests that the colour of the cards could be used to tell you how to play for example

if he is going to play a hand, he will use the right card as his indicator, if its red, he plays it aggressively, if its black he plays it slowly... ok so thats preflop

on the flop he uses the middle card as his indicator, if its red he plays the flop aggressively, black passively..

ok the turn same thing.. red aggressive, black passive..

i found it to be a pretty cool system to add deception to your game.. he also went on and said the the suit of the card could tell you in what style to play.. red heart- loose aggressive red diamond-tight aggressive.. black club-loose passive and the spade- tight passive..

but you can make whatever system up you want, but a really good idea.

of course there are times where you would want to deviate from this system, but nonetheless a good idea..

Spiderman, the idea is to randomise how you play your hand. Changing gears from hand to hand, with a pattern decided by a random factor that your opponents cannot see (the suit of the first card you look at). It's not a bad idea.

However, I have never randomly changed gears. I change because the situation demands it and I change to something that I consider closer to optimal than what I'm already playing. I think where a lot of people go wrong is by assuming that to be unpredictable you have to be random, you just have to have a high level of complexity, involving a lot of variables, in how you play. I think randomness comes at the expense of taking an optimal approach, if this was the only way to be unpredictable then it would be the lesser of two evils, but I think you can find more useful variables (that your opponent wont have picked up on) to change up your play with.

First of all... what the pokerkid said.

Also, passive play is seldom correct (especially in LHE). The only time to get passive is when your bets will only fold worse and get called by better. Even then you'd be better off betting and rooting for crying calls. Which, you should get if you've used good game selection in finding your LHE table.

Randomizing is best left for the hands you play not how you play them.

agreed, i dont think i would use this system but for those who fall into the trap of not knowing when to "change it up" it may be something to help increase deception to their game. As not everyone is able to "change because the game demands it"

I wasnt suggesting that he used this system for every hand btw, sometimes its obvious you need to be betting checking so you play accordingly.

But anyways i thought it was a bit differant so i decided to share it

I've actually used something similar for the my pre-flop game. I don't want to always be raising with just premiums in EP, so I add suited connectors at times. (This is primarily for limit ring games.)
